"Oh you do, do you?" I asked, taking a step back.

Erik watched me closely. "Why are you so hell bent on protecting me, look me in the eyes and tell me you don't feel something for me?" He asked, his tone rough.

I swallowed heavily, lifting my eyes to meet his. "I don't feel anything for you," I said firmly.

"You're still a terrible liar," Erik growled.

"If that's what you think, than fine but it's the truth" I said, firmly.

Hearing a ding, we both turned our heads to look at the first employee walking through the doors.

"I have paperwork to do, please excuse me," I said, sitting down on my office chair.

Erik placed his fingers on the desk and looked at me. "This conversation is not over," he replied before turning around and walking back into his office.

I flinched as the door slammed.

The office began to fill up as I busied myself with my work. Transferring calls to other departments and running errands for Mr Rycroft's emails.

It wasn't until I was sitting at my desk for the 7th hour when someone tapped my desk. I looked up to see Erik's brother.

"Long time no see, detective" I said with a smile.

He studied my face before deciding something. Jared Rycroft sat down in front of my desk.

"Jared, just Jared to you," he replied, giving me a cool look.

I hesitated. "Here to see your brother?" I asked, moving forward to tap the intercom.

"No actually, I'm here to see you," Jared replied.

Surprised, my eyes widened. "Oh? What can I do for you?" I asked, curious.

"I think the question is, what can I do for you?" He reiterated.

I frowned not understanding.

"Now, I'm not usually a guy that shies away from a challenge or gets nervous in any type of situation but you, Miss Elvin, you make me nervous," he said, simply.

"In a bad way?" I asked, worried I had offended the officer.

"No, in a good way.." he trailed off.

I glanced around before looking back at him. "I'm honestly not following you, did you want something?" I asked, confused.

"A time," he said.

"A time?"

"Free time, when are you available next?" He asked.

"Oh! Um why?" I asked, hiding my hands under my desk.

"Coffee and cake, or dinner, dealers choice," Jared said giving me a small smile.

"Detective, I don't think that's a good idea.." I said, fidgeting.

He leaned forward. "If you're worried about my brother's disapproving looks, don't worry I can handle him, I could always arrest him," he said before chuckling.

I gave a nervous chuckle before looking down. "I'm flattered, Detective, honestly but I've just got out of a relationship, and I'm not ready to move on, per say," I replied.

His smirk widened. "I see, and it's Jared, not Detective, anyway, if you ever change your mind-" he said taking a card from his pocket, "-give me a call."

Jared stood up, just as Erik's door opened. "Aviana, we have a me-" Erik cut off.

Mr Rycroft's eyes darted between us. "What's going on?" Erik asked, a hint of anger in his tone.
