"You belong to me now, I suggest you behave" the King said, his cold hands gripping my jaw.
My eyes were forced to stare into his sliver orbs. "Or what?" I asked, gritting my teeth.
"Or living in this Castle will get significantly harder for you"...
I didn't know how long I had sat there, on my knees. My hand reaching for someone who wasn't going to turn back.
My entire body felt drained and useless, like my mind was just some cog in this machine and I happened to be the backseat driver.
At some point, my body went numb and the sun began to rise. Opening my eyes, I watched as the sun's pale orange glow deepened the skies and set fire to Italy.
Like the sun, I rose too.
I had nowhere to go, I knew no one in this city but apart of me didn't exactly want to be here anymore.
Sometime during the night, I had decided my mind. I would return home, fight any wolf that tried to tear me down and live out the rest of my immortal life in isolation.
It was all I deserved.
Especially after breaking the heart of the Vampire King.
All night, I wracked my brain for a reason to hunt him down and tell him he was wrong but he wasn't. I did love him, I would lay down my life for him but I didn't want to be a Queen, and sadly, being with him required me to wear a crown.
I was probably being incredibly selfish and apart of me was just angry that I couldn't take the crown so I could have the man.
"You look like shit," a rough voice said, making me break from my thoughts.
A woman stood in front of me, dressed in tight black jeans, a silver crop top, and a leather jacket to finish the look. I raised an eyebrow before straightening.
"Sorry, did I interupt some kind of ritual?" The woman suddenly asked, looking worried.
"No," I replied, my voice hoarse from the crying.
She narrowed her eyes. "May I sit?" She asked, gesturing to the empty space beside me.
"As you wish," I replied.
The stranger woman sat and turned to look at me. "Have you been crying this entire time?" She asked, tilting her head.
"Why do you care?" I asked, annoyed.
"Because I'm all about female empowerment, and something tells me you've been crying over a man," the stranger replied.
A flash of anger darted through my veins. "You don't know what you're talking about," I snapped.
"You're angry at a choice you made so now you're lashing out at me," the woman said, looking at me.
A sense of familiarity washed over me but I took no heed of it. "You know nothing of what I'm going through!" I exclaimed.
The woman stood up. "If you love him so much why did you say no?" She asked.
My eyes widened. "He knows why," I replied.
"You're lying! Not only to him but to yourself, just admit it," the woman snapped.
"Who the hell do you think you are!" I exclaimed, standing up.
The woman seemed to grin. "Why did you say no!" The woman screamed.
"Because I care too much about him and everything I touch gets ruined!" I yelled back at her.
The woman seemed to fade. "You know what you need to do, Celene." She said firmly.
"Wait, who are you?" I asked, before blinking.
She was gone.
"Hello?" I asked, calling out for this mystery woman.
My eyes opened with a start, causing me to sit forward. The remains of the dream faded from mind as I got to my feet. I knew what I needed to do.
Taking a look at my surroundings, I tried to find my way back to the house. They were probably already long gone but I had to try.
I turned onto the street I was familiar with. Addicts filling up the cobblestones as they begged for a bite. Ignoring them, I found the stairs and walked up them before pushing the front door open.
Emerging into the house, I could see my still unopened envelope from my father still sitting on the table but everything else was gone.
"Mekhi! Richard!" I yelled as I fought the new wave of sadness.
I ran into the corridor, pushing open all the doors. "Mekhi!" I called out.
"No" I breathed out.
Closing my eyes, I sharpened my vampire sense, listening for footsteps with no heartbeat.
My sense slithered through the crowds like a snake until I heard it. There!
Snapping my eyes open, I didn't wait another second before I began to run. Suddenly, it was like I was flying and then I was falling forward, rolling across gravel before landing in front of Richard and Mekhi.
"Celene!" Richard exclaimed.
Sighing, I pushed myself up and brushed dirt from my hair. "Not exactly the entrance I wanted but I'll take it, Richard can you give us a moment," I said, looking at him.
His eyes studied mine before nodding and walking past his father until he was out of earshot.
"I have nothing more to say, Celene," Mekhi said firmly.
"No you don't, but I do" I said, walking towards him.
"All night I spent by that river, feeling like my entire world had just imploded and I felt like I was dying," I began.
Mekhi tried to interupt but I shushed him. "What they say is true, you never truly know what you have until it's gone," I said.
"I didn't want the crown because I was afraid I wasn't worthy of it, I didn't want to marry you because I felt as though you could do better, and everything I touch, dies" I said, watching Mekhi's facial expressions.
He remained emotionless.
"I do love you, so much that I feel like if you wanted to leave for good, I feel like a part of me would leave to," I added.
"Celene," he trailed off.
"I don't want you to say anything," I said as a fresh hot tear trailed down my cheek.
I took Mekhi's hand and stepped closer to him; tilting my head up. Slowly, I pressed my lips to his. I recieved no movement back. "If having you means I have to wear a crown than so be it because there is nothing in this world that I want more than you," I whispered as I pulled away gently.
"I'm sorry it took you walking away from me to realise that," I finished, pulling away.
His eyes studied my face before moving forward and capturing me in a kiss.
