"Are you still going on that date with your boyfriend?" Cole asked Emily referring to the date Emily had after this.
"You could always ditch him for us, you know. We could hang out for the rest of the day. Just tell him you're busy." Logan piped up.
They laughed as I shook my head with a smile on my face.
They were doing most of the chat, while I just leaned on the table with elbows propped up as I rested my chin on my knuckles.
"No, I can't do that. I haven't seen him in a while and today he's actually the one that called me to meet up." She responded.
"Emily not to be rude or anything, but..." Cole starts. "Don't you think he is too distant with you? I mean he says he loves you, but he does not show it often and as your friend, I don't like it." He finishes.
Cole and Logan turned to her and I just lowered my gaze.
"I know, of course I know he is being too distant with me, but it's probably because of his job." She answers.
I don't think that's the only reason. I wanted to say, but I stayed quiet.
"Even is he is busy, you guys love each other but maybe it's not meant to be. And you will most likely hate me for saying that, but it's the truth."
It's not meant to be.
Those words echo through my mind and eventually I look up.
I look at Cole first, his face masked with anger, while Emily looks sad.
"I could never hate you." She whispers.
She takes a deep breath before speaking. "I know, you're right.
"Why do say not everyone is meant to be?" Logan asks.
At Logan's question, Cole groans and sits back in his seat.
"I just mean that not everyone who falls in love is meant to be together. Every relationship is meant to be different, some are meant to make you happy, while others are meant to teach you a lesson. In the end, all relationships are beautiful but not all are meant to last. Does my explanation make sense?" He finishes.
But as he finishes talking, a girl who I now recognize very well appears with our drinks.
She places the drinks at the center of the table. And as she does that, my eyes follow her every movement.
Once she is done she proceeds to leave, but Cole stops her.
"Miss, can I ask you a question. You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but I would like to know what you think of this. I'm just trying to have a fifth opinion on the conversation my friends and I are having." Cole begins before continuing. "So what do you think about love? Well, no. Do you think everyone who falls in love is meant to end together?" He finishes off.
His questions catch me off guard and it seems Gabriella was not expecting that either.
Curious about her response, I look at her waiting for her to answer.
