You stood nervously in your dress while staring at your reflection in the mirror.

Taylor watched from the doorway before turning her back to go across the hall to check on your small three-year-old, Carter.

You've been dating for almost six months now and to some, that could seem like a while to wait to meet your significant other's parents. But you don't ever want Carter to get attached to something, or someone, only for it to never work out and fall apart. So you took your time with Taylor, delaying all these things that are important, just to protect your little boy.

"Hey, buddy!" Taylor said as she stepped inside his room. The little boy ran up to Taylor with his teddy bear clutched to his chest. "You ready to go?" He nodded his head, hanging on tight to Taylor as she carried him inside your room.

"You look gorgeous," Taylor said from the doorway. You turned around, smiling at your two favorite people. You ran your hand through Carter's hair and dropped a few kisses to his forehead causing him to giggle. You gave Taylor a kiss and looped one of your arms around her neck. "So do you. You ready to go?" Taylor looked down at Carter who nodded his head excitedly. "Let's go, my loves."

Carter ended up falling asleep on the drive there. When you arrived you sat silently in the car, trying to distract yourself by picking at the polish on your nails. "You okay?" Taylor asked as she reached for one of your hands. "I'm nervous." Taylor furrowed her eyebrows. "Why?" You let out a breathy chuckle. "Do you think they'll think I'm a bad influence on you? What if they don't like me? Or Carter? What if they don't approve of our relationship-" "Y/n, breathe." Taylor reminded you as you rambled.

She ran her thumb over your knuckles and helped you take a few deep breaths. "They know about Carter. I've told them about him." Your shoulders dropped as relief flooded over you, a huge weight already off your shoulders. "Okay. Do you think they'll like him?" Taylor chuckled. "Knowing my parents they'll probably never let him go." You both laughed and Taylor gave you a kiss. "You ready?" You looked back at your sleepy boy in the backseat before nodding your head and getting out of the car to get him.

Scott opened the door before you even reached the front porch. He immediately embraced Taylor in a hug before pulling away and yelling for Andrea. "You must be y/n" He smiled and looked at the boy in your arms. "And this must be Carter. Well, isn't he just adorable?" Scott said as Carter rubbed his eyes tiredly.

You stepped inside as Carter shyly curled up closer to you. "Taylor! Oh, honey, hi." Andrea said as you all walked into the kitchen. "And you're y/n, and this must be the little man I've heard so much about." She smiled as Carter wrapped his arms around your neck nervously. You rubbed his back and Taylor did the same. "hey, it's alright, buddy." Taylor promised as she planted a few kisses to Carter's head.

Carter suddenly reached out for Andrea making her coo and embrace him. "You are just the cutest! You look so much like your mom." Andrea told him, making you grin. Taylor wrapped her arm around you as Scott walked over to Andrea and Carter. He giggled and smiled at them both. "Taylor's sent us a few pictures before but he's even cuter in person," Scott said. "Oh! We did get him a little something."

Scott went out of the room, returning moments later with something behind his back. He pulled out a stuffed bear with 'I love you' written across its stomach. The smile on your son's face and the sight of Taylor's parents clearly already so loving with him made your heart swell.

"Maybe, someday soon, we can take you out for ice cream or something? Give your mom and Taylor some time alone while we can get some quality time with you?" Andrea offered and the smile on Carter's face at the mention of his favorite treat was one that made you grin from ear to ear. "I think he'd love that." You smiled.

The dinner went better than you hoped. Carter ate some of the food and Andrea even gave him a couple of cookies that he went wild over.

After that, he got attached to you all over again, curling and snuggling close to you and not wanting to let you go unless Taylor came near him.

She stood back by her parents as they watched the sweet sight of you and Carter. "You did good this time, Taylor. She's a keeper. They both are." Andrea said as she pulled Taylor in her arms. "They're amazing, right? I love them so much. When she first told me she had a kid, I'll be honest I got a little nervous because I thought, well what if I screw up? But I'm so in love with them both, and he's the sweetest and most perfect little boy. The way he clings to me sometimes and how my day is just so much better with his little laugh and smile alone... I never wanna let them go. I can't imagine my life without either of them."

Scott nodded his head, understanding exactly how Taylor felt. "Well, he clearly loves you too. And she's a great mom. Don't you ever let them go, you got it?" Scott teasingly warned her making her laugh. "I won't."

Taylor's conversation was interrupted by the little boy being let go from your embrace and rushing over to her. She scooped him up in her arms and pressed a bunch of kisses to his face. "I love you," she told him before looking over at you. "And I love you too." She smiled.

Taylor's parents knew right then and there that she found the one.
