//this said Part 5 by accident this is definitely part 4
Deciding to stay was hard, but he had too. Pressing his hand against the wound Death began his work. In his years of working he's learned quite a bit, one of thoese things was to always carry supplies. Using one hand, he flings his backpack over his shoulder, pulling out an ace wrap, he undose the bandage and places it over the wound. Now looking up, not a single soul insight. What's the likability someone actually is calling the paramedics? Death remebers something about the Bystander effect, so he uses his instinct and lifts Dream.
A pained grunt is the reply he receives, and he can feel the blood seeping into his clothes. And getting Dream inside the nearest building, which is the cheif's apartment, he scans the lobby, already seeing the horror stricken receptionist, who shakily reaches for the phone. "Death." There's a cough following the call for the other. Death turns his head "hang on to that thought Dream. I'm not letting you-" he's cut off by taller male handing him a key "please.... If I don't-" another cough, this one paired with an ugly shade of red. It takes a while for Dream to find the breath he needs, and when he does he's been moved to the floor. "I-if... I don, ifi don make it...." Death presses harder and looks to the reseptionest for help, or when helps coming, she responds with a nod and a "two minutes" his attention is back on Dream. "Would youdo me a fav...or, and tuck m'kidsin?" Death shakes his head "no Dream. That your job. Alright? Do you hear me? You're going home and tucking them in. Why don't you tell me more about them huh?" Dream smiles, "Lux is... She's trunin'eigh... Mmm lil girl.." His words are slurring and Death panics more.
He's clinging to desperation. "Yea? Eights'a big number huh?" Dream nods weakly. The flash of red and blue serve to ease Death a bit. "Stay with me Dream. Can you do that a little longer." Dream shrugs. The paramedics fill the little lobby and a few people from their rooms pool into the stairs. Mummers and whispers fill the already chattery Lobby. Death looks at the key in his hand. And checks in with one of the paramedics. They look at him before the clipboard "it's already a lot of blood, we aren't sure if he's going to be ok or not. Chances are slim at this point. And I hate to have to say this, but don't get your hopes too high." Death's hands tighten. But there's nothing more he can do.
He thanks the officer before walking over to the receptionist. "Which floor and room is he?" She looks at the key then flips through a couple of pages, "room 114, second floor." Death nods and takes the key with him. It takes him a good minute to find the room he's searching for and unlocks it. He creeps inside to see that the tv is on, and he fears that he's going to have to explain to one of Dreams kids that their dad might not come home, but to his relief the couch is empty, he looks around and finds Lux's room, and he hesitates, but walks in anyways.
There's another figure in the bed, and Death can see a book on the floor. Assuming it's his other kid, he slowly creeps over, but stops dead in his tracks when he sees the taller figure sit up, "dad?" They ask, rubbing their eyesocket. Death sighs "no. Sorry kid" they stare him for a bit, then look down "He's not coming home tonight, isn't he?" Death looks down "No... Not tonight kiddo" the taller figure slowly gets out of bed and stares down at Lux. "Is he working late?" Death looks at the key, realizing that it's proabably to dark to see tge blood covering it and his clothes. But was it ok to lie to a child? "No. He's been injured on the job" the child seems to giggle "again? Geez. But that's ok! Cuz good guys always get hurt right?" Death feels his soul sink. And he nods. "Where's your other dad?" "Oh Cross? He's on a business trip. He'll be back next week" Death nods again. His phone buzzes and he pulls it out to check it.
G: stay safe let me know if you need a ride ok?
Death hesitates to answer so he put his phone back. "We should get you to bed." The child nods and walks to his room, there's stars plastered all over the roof and theres art suplies in every corner, but the room is clean. The kid get into bed and Death stands there awkwardly. "Goodnight mister." Death nods and closes the door. He walks out of the apartment, but stops and looks at the door knob. It feels wrong to leave them here.
