Chapter 9

"Melanie! Not so fast!" Jay called as he ran after the little girl. Melanie giggled and kept running. Dude ran next to her "You're on fire girl." he said. Melanie giggled and continued running. Jay kept calling her name after her telling her to come back. Melanie didn't even think about it, she was young and she wanted to enjoy it. Besides, she only listened to her mother and father. She jumped over logs and ran as fast as she could "Come on, Dude!!" She giggles. Dude laughs and continues to run after her. Melanie glanced over her shoulder to see if Jay was still following them. He wasn't. Melanie and Dude stopped running "I think we've lost him." She said. She sat down resting against a tree. Dude sat down on her lap "Where are we?" He asks. Melanie looks up "The forest...at least...I think so." She said. It was dark and the only thing you heard was Dude panting. Melanie stood up and looked into a pair of eyes. She glanced down at Dude "M-Maybe we s-should go." She stutters. Dude nods and looks at the dark figure. Melanie wanted to walk away but the dark figure stepped towards them "Don't be afraid." It said, "I'm a friend." it's hand reached out to her. Melanie screamed but her mouth got covered "Stop screaming!" It said.

Dude barked and bit in the dark figure's leg. It removed his hand from Melanie's mouth and kicked Dude. Melanie screamed again "Dude!!" She screamed. He didn't respond and the figure stepped closer to her "Come here." it said. Melanie wanted to scream again but her father jumped in front of her and Jay stood behind her covering her mouth. Carlos looked angry "What are you doing here? What do you want from my daughter?!" He asks. Melanie squirmed herself out of Jay's grip and rushed towards Dude. Jay glared at the person Carlos talked to "How did he get here?" He asks Carlos. Carlos shrugs "We'll find out, he's all yours." The white-haired boy said. Carlos looked at his daughter "Mel?" He says. Melanie cried "H-he isn't w-waking up." She said. That's when Mal arrived "Doug?" She said. Doug laughed nervously "Hello." Jay grabbed him by his collar "We are going to have a little chat." He said and dragged Doug with him. Mal and Carlos keeled next to Melanie and Dude. Carlos picked up Dude "Let's go." he said. Mal picked up her daughter "Mommy, is Dude going to be okay?" Melanie asks. Mal looks into her eyes "I don't know." 

Meanwhile in Auradon, Ben paced around his office. He glanced outside the window "How did this happen? How could I have let this happen?" He asks himself. There was a knock on the door "Come in!" Ben said. The door opened and Jane walked inside. Ben sat on his desk "Any news? Did they find Audrey?" He asks. She shakes her head slowly. Ben groaned and walked towards the window. Jane cleared her throat "There is something else." She said. Ben looked at her reflection in the window "Speak." He said. Jane stepped forward "Doug left." She says. Ben turned around "To where? How long will he be gone?" He asks. Jane looked at the floor "He's left to see Evie on the Isle. He wants to make sure she's okay after what you did." she said. Ben walks towards her and forces her against the nearest wall "After what I did huh?" He says breathy "Don't talk to your king like that, girly." He said. Jane's breath was shakey "B-Ben-" She started. Ben pushes her harder against the wall "Don't...even...try." he said. He leaned down to her ear "Get him back before he tells them about our little secret." He whispers, "Can you do that for me?" Jane nods slowly. Ben smiles devilish "Good Girl." He whispers and releases her, "Now go." he said.
