Chapter 10

"What are you doing here?" Jay asked him. Doug shuffles on the chair he's tied up to "I came to check on Evie." He said. Jay crosses his arms over his chest "She's fine. Why would you even care? You cheated on her." He reminds Doug. Doug sighs "We all know I wasn't her true love." He said. Jay smiles slightly as he thought about his girlfriend "She's always been dreaming about finding her true love," He says, "But it doesn't explain why you are still here." He continued. Doug glances at Jay "Come on man, just let me go." He begged. Jay sits down on a chair in front of Doug "No, you tried to use a little girl to break into Mal and Carlos' castle." He said. Doug groans "I didn't know it was their stupid child!" He says. That's when Mal walked in, Doug's eyes open widely "Shit." He whispers. Mal smirks slightly "Indeed. You don't care about Evie, so what are you really doing here?" Mal asks him. Doug looks down at his feet "I already told you, I came here to check on Evie. I know what Ben did, I wanted to make sure she's okay." He said. Mal didn't trust him. Ben could've told him to say that, all of this could be a trap. Jay glanced at Mal "Do you think he's telling the truth?" He asks quietly. Mal shakes her head "No. Evie, there is someone here for you!" She yelled as she left the room.

Meanwhile, in another room, Hades was trying to wake up Dude. Carlos stood behind him "Is he waking up?" He asks. Hades glances over his shoulder "It takes time. I usually don't save souls, I steal them." He said, "I'm doing as much as I can." He tells him. Carlos sighs "Not enough! He could be dying!" The white-haired boy said. Hades stands up "What does it matter if he dies? He's a dog! You can buy a new one." Hades said. Carlos glanced at Dude on the bed "He's different. This dog isn't just a dog to me, he's a friend, and he can't be replaced." Carlos tells him. Hades chuckled "Trust me, he can be replaced." He said. Carlos shakes his head "You don't understand." He said and sat down in a chair. Hades stood in front of him "Then help me to understand." He said. Carlos glanced at Dude again "When we left the Isle, I was terrified of dogs." He tells him. 

Hades chuckled "You're the son of Cruella De Vil!" He said. Carlos nods slowly "It wasn't my fault. My mom told me they were rabid pack animals who eat boys who don't behave." He said and pointed at Dude, "I was running and he ran after me. I was so scared. I ran into the woods and climbed in a tree to avoid him. Then Mal's ex-boyfriend Ben helped me to get over mt fear and ever since that day he has been my friend." He said. Hades puts his hand on his shoulder "I didn't know a dog could mean so much to someone." He said. Carlos runs his hand through his hair "My mom wanted to kill him for his fur and now he might be dying." The white-haired boy said. Hades got his ember out of his pocket "I will do everything I can to save him." Hades said. Carlos smiled "Thanks...Dad." He chuckles. Hades chuckles "Never call me that again." He said. Carlos chuckled "I won't." He said.

Back in the other room, Evie has joined Mal and Jay. She tried to avoid eye contact with Doug "I don't want to be here." She said. Jay puts one of his hands on her waist "Me neither." He said. Doug glanced at Evie "Are you okay?" He asks. Evie nods "I'm fine." She said. Doug sighs "Listen, I know you still hate me-" He starts "Then why are you here?!" Evie asked raising her voice slightly. Jay puts his other hand on her shoulder "Honey-" "Not now, Jay. I want him to leave!" She said. Mal was leaning against the wall "Can't, first he's going to tell us if Ben wants something else from us." She said. Evie glares at her friend "I want him to leave! Now!" She said before storming off.
