The next evening, Mal sat in the study room. She glanced down at the papers in front of her. Carlos walked past the room. "What's wrong?" He asked her.
Mal looked up and sighed. "I don't think this is going to work Carlos. Everything we've done until so far has only made things worse." She said.
Carlos walked inside and made his way towards his wife. "I mean, how are we supposed to make this a better place if we can't even rebuild the school." She sighed. Carlos puts his hand on her waist. "We'll figure something out." He said.
"We can't Carlos! Auradon will never let us rebuild the Isle and make it a better place." Mal said. "I thought we were doing this. Not Auradon." He said. "We have nothing. Carlos, we need Auradon." She said. Carlos removes his hands from her waist.
"We don't. We have powers that go beyond their expectations. You yourself can rebuild the Isle with your magic." He said. "I don't know if I'm strong enough." She told him. Carlos sat down on the couch that was in the room. "Then what about your parents?" He asked her. "I don't know where they are." She said quietly. Carlos glared at her.
"What do you mean you don't know?" He asked her. "They have been gone for a couple of days, no one knows where they are." She explained. Carlos groaned and runs his hand through his hair. "Carlos, are you okay?" Mal asked him.
He stands up and puts his hands on the table in front of him. "I'm fine." He said. Mal didn't believe him. She noticed his grip on the table was tight. Then, out of anger, he flipped the table. Mal backed up against the wall. Carlos noticed her and calmed down. "Mal-" "Don't." She said and rushed out of the room. Carlos rushed after her. "Mal! Wait!" He said.
He catches up with her and holds her hand. "Mal, I'm sorry." he started. Mal holds up her hand interrupting him. "You're not." She said, "You're never sorry when you're angry." She whispered. "You should've told me." Carlos muttered.
"I knew you would get angry." She said. Carlos glared at her. "We're supposed to be in this together, Mal, we're not supposed to hide things from each other." He reminded her. This time Mal glared at him. "Then why didn't you tell me you had an argument with your mother?" She asked him.
Carlos let go of her hand. "I'm sorry, I didn't want you to get worried." He said. Mal folded her arms over her chest. "Too late. What made her so angry?" She asked him. Carlos sighed. "It's complicated." He tells her. Mal looks at him. "Tell me, what happened." She said. "My mother and I...we were just talking." He started."Mom, can I ask you something?" He asked his mother. She nodded and soon a sip of her drink. "I wanted to ask you...who is my father?" He asked.
The cruel woman glared at her son. "What?" She said. Carlos scratched the back of his neck. "I was just wondering. You raised me all by yourself, and I know that I have a father. I just wondered, where is he?" He asked his mother.
Cruella stood up and slowly stepped closer to him, one step at the time. "Why are you so curious? Do you not agree with how I raised you?!" She yelled. Carlos backed up slightly. "No not at all I was just wondering." He said.
Cruella wrapped his hand around her son's neck and squeezed it tightly. "Just wondering? Is this because of Mal? Because of Hades?" She asked him. Carlos shook his head. "N-no mother." He stuttered trying to gasp for air. The grip around his neck tightens. "I don't want you to talk about your father ever again. No questions, nothing!" She yelled.
Carlos nodded quickly. His mother let go of his neck and smirked as she saw the marks. "Let that be a reminder of what happens when you ask me about that weak human being." She said and left the room.
Carlos coughed and tried to catch his breath. "Yes, mother." He whispered.Mal looked at him. "All you did was ask about your father?" She asked. "Yes, and somehow it drove her over the edge." He said. Mal was furious, how could she do that to her son? "Please, don't rush to my mother, it won't help." Carlos asked her. Mal nodded. "I promise." She said.
