Chapter 24

Carlos glanced over his shoulder. A pair of glowing eyes were looking at him from the darkness. Carlos set Jane down "Mal." He said. Mal looked at him "What's wrong?" She asked him. Carlos grabbed her arm "Ben. He's here." He tells her.
Jane slowly backed up "And he's coming this way." She whispered. Carlos looked at Ben. He stepped out of the shadows, revealing his face.
It was horrifying to see him like this. "I'll hold him off, you two have to make a run for it. He will catch you if you don't." Carlos tells the two girls. Mal shakes her head "If we have to run you're coming with us. He could hurt you." She said. Carlos kissed the top of her head "Please Mal, for once, listen to me." He said.
Mal did not like this plan, but she had no choice. She squeezed Carlos's hand "I love you." She said. Carlos smiled at her "I love you too, now go." He said. Mal grabbed Jane's hand and pulled her through the forest. Carlos heard a roar behind him. 
The white-haired boy turned around and stopped the beast. Carlos punched him in his face, but it didn't have a lot of effect on Ben. Ben started to fight back. Carlos kicked and punched him, but he wasn't as strong as the beast in front of him.
Ben raised his claw and scratched Carlos's neck. The white-haired boy collapsed and fell onto the ground. Ben sat on top of him and pinned his arms above his head. He roared as loud as he could. Carlos didn't lose his focus. He kicked Ben's private area. The beast roared again and crawled off Carlos.
Carlos stood up and kicked Ben again, and again, and again. Blood was dripping from his snout, but that didn't stop Carlos. He continued to kick and beat the beast until he was knocked out.
The white-haired boy dropped to his knees and panted loudly.
Carlos ignored the fact that he was bleeding from his neck. He stared at the limp body in front of him. When he finally catches his breath he stood up and picked up Ben and slung him over his shoulder.

Meanwhile, Mal and Jane ran out of the forest. Mal looked behind her to see if Carlos was there. "He's fine. He'll be here any second." Jane assured her. Mal nodded and panted "I know." She said. The two girls slowly made their way towards the castle. Doug was outside waiting for them. He wrapped his arms around Jane "I'm so glad you're okay." He tells her.
He looks at Mal "Both of you." he said. Mal smiled slightly "Take her inside." She tells him. "What about you? Aren't you coming?" Doug asked. Mal shook her head "Carlos should come back soon." She tells him. Doug looks at her "Where is he then?" He asked her.
Mal pointed towards the forest they had just escaped from "Ben showed up. Carlos bought us some time to escape." She explained, "Just take her inside, I'll be there soon." She says.
He nodded and walked inside with Jane by his side.
Mal turned around to look at the forest.
She stood there for a long time. Then Carlos walked out. Mal noticed the figure over his shoulder. Mal rushed towards him "Carlos!" She said.
Carlos looked up and carefully put Ben down and wraps his arms around Mal. Mal sighs in relief "You're safe." She said. When she pulled back she saw the wound on his neck "You're hurt." She said. Carlos shrugged "I don't care." He said and kissed her. Mal pushed him off "You're bleeding." She said and puts her hand on the wound "Get these wounds off this skin, turn it back to the way it has always been." She pronounced the spell and the wound disappeared.
Carlos smiled at her "Thanks, but you didn't have to do that." He tells her. "I don't care." She said, "Let's go home." She said. The white-haired boy looked down at the boy next to him "We should take him to the castle first." He said. Mal pouts, "I want to go home." She said. Carlos kissed the top of her head and picked up Ben "Let's make this quick then." He said.
