Chapter 61
Try Surving
生き残ってみる

Survival,
an important thing in this world.

I will survive in this world.

~

Reader's POV

I walked around the forest with Ray, Emma, and Yuugo.
{ Wow, what is this forest? More stuff I haven't seen in the books at the house. They look like melted candles. And this tree trunk }
I touched it hesitantly.
{ Is it stone? There's something in here for sure.
}

"This forest... is where the wild man-eaters live,"
Yuugo said.

"There are a bunch.
They're wild, but they form packs. At least the ones around here. And they always move together, they watch out for each other.

And all of the species are violent. Which means if they find you, you're dead.
They'll call for the others... and attack you all at once... and eat you together, down to the bones,"

He said.

"Cool,"
I muttered.

Yuugo glared at me.
"The only way to survive if you've discovered one... is to kill it before it calls the others.
But that would be impossible for you weaklings."

And so, we continued to walk.
There was no noise of our footsteps.

"How longer?"
Emma asked.

"I think there's about two hours until sundown,"
Ray said.

I touched my amulet.
That always comforted me.

"Okay. Let's keep at it,"
Emma said.

"Yeah, and things are going well. We're making good progress so far,"
Yuugo said.

I didn't believe that much... but eh.

We continued to follow him.
I was behind Yuugo, if he tried anything...

"To the right,"
Yuugo then said.

I looked down at the ground.
To the right... The demon prints were fresher.

"Are you sure?"
Ray then asked.

"No, we should go left,"
He then said.

Ray deadpanned, glaring at him.
"Thanks, Ray. Didn't notice,"

Emma smiled.
"Sure thing."

As we walked, Emma stopped.
"What is it?"
I asked.

"Do you feel that?"
she asked.

I then heard what she was talking about.
Huge footsteps.

Then, we heard a scream as it came at us.
"EMMA!!"
I shouted, she was facing the other way.

I took a deep breath and grabbed them, pulling them out of the way.
I grabbed my gun and aimed it at the demon.
Shoot. Kill it and it's gone.

I shot multiple times along with Yuugo,
But it didn't work well.

Ray hurried over to Emma, and I took a deep breath.
"Emma! Emma!"
he called out.

I left it to Yuugo and hurried to Emma.
"Emma!"
I pulled her shoulder.

She gasped.
"Huh? Am I... alive?!"
She asked.

"You thought you died, right?"
Yuugo smirked.

"And you would have.
You couldn't even pull the trigger. Wow, that was hilarious.
You've never seen a man-eater that attacks from above, right? They live here. Of course, I knew that,"

he laughed.

"But thank you. You saved me, Mister,"
She said.

"And we need to get out of here. Before the others find the corpse,"
I grumbled.

"Saved you? I didn't save you.
Man-eaters don't die so easily.
It'll regenerate quickly... and call for its friends,"

he told us with a smirk.

I growled and muttered something under my breath as the demon did just that.
It let out a scream.

I grabbed Emma and Ray's hands and pulled them away.
"Damn it! Why didn't you say something earlier?!"
Ray exclaimed.

"I did it on purpose.
I purposely didn't kill it and didn't tell you. Out of spite,"

he said.

"What the--"
"No worries. I won't die. But you guys are in trouble.
They didn't get to eat you. You attacked one of their own. They're pissed,"

He said.

"So it's worse than just having them call the others, see?"
he added with a grin.

"You're a total jerk!"
Ray exclaimed.

"So let this hellish journey begin.
Your lives are in my hands
Try surviving this, you brats."

he grinned.

I let out a quick sigh but smirked,
and holding Emma and Ray's hand, I smiled.
"Let it begin. And you'll see that we won't die,"
I challenged.

His expression twisted.

~

Damn, ever notice how, you, the reader, held Ray's hand in the end of last book.
And now you're holding both Emma and Ray's?
Well-

ahem, yeah.
And so, since I don't have the rest of the books and will have to read this online to write this book, chapters might come out later than expected.
So that's a sorry on my behalf.

But thank you all for getting this far!
