[ 6 Years Later
(You are 22, Zack is 25 ]

I looked at the painkiller pills, setting them on the counter.

"Those don't help, you know that, right?"
A voice said as they stood at my door.

"Ha ha. I'm a doctor, I'll be the judge of that,"
I said, turning to Zack.

He gives me a smile.
"And I'm a 'suicidal maniac', as Sandy puts it. So I used them all the time,  I'm also the judge of it,"
He says.

"Suicidal maniac?"
I asked, bursting into laughter.

"That describes you perfectly!"
I chuckled.

He rolls his eyes.
"How have you been?"
He asked, coming over to me and hugging me.

"I've been good,"
I said softly, wrapping my arms around him, resting my head on his shoulder.

"And how's the military?"
I asked him.

"Horrible and boring,"
He said with a sarcastic grin.

"Oh? I thought you'd like it,"
I smiled, sitting down on the edge of my bed. Zack jumped onto my bed, grabbing a pillow and hugging it.

"Eh,"
He said simply.

I smiled and he pulled me into his arms.

"I missed youuuu,"
He cooed in my ear, smiling proudly.

"I missed you too,"
I laughed.

Zack is my best friend... well, obviously more than that.

But we never put a label on us.
Friends with benefits, I guess it would be?

Zack took in my scent, nuzzling closer to me.
"I'm glad to be back,"
He said softly

"And I'm glad you're back,"
I smiled, putting my hand on his.

Zack stayed for about 8 months,
and those 8 months were the best months of my life.

we watched movies,

Zack and I threw popcorn at each other as the movie blared in the background.
He blinked multiple times in confusion when he caught the popcorn in his mouth.

I burst into laughter and ate the next one.

talked about... the weirdest stuff,

"How do jelleyfish, you know,"
Zack started.

I slapped him.
"There's something wrong with you,"
I said, laughing.

"It's a genuine question!"
he defended.

"I dunno. I'm a doctor, not some kind of animal observer,"
I told him.

He nodded, taking it for his answer.

"Now, my question. Where did this come from?"
I asked, pointing at the scar across his nose.

"Just demons. When I was shipped out, I ran into one almost instantly,"
He told me.
