Chapter 8

A/N: Extra-long chapter since I got a bit too carried away with one. . . Will probably happen with chapter 9 too. . . SORRY

Soobin's head jotted out of the water, a wave buffeted his face and salty water entered his mouth. He would've enjoyed the new yet still familiar salty taste of the ocean. . . If it hadn't been for the anxiety clawing at his chest at not seeing his friends coming back up the surface.

The sky above them was a deep navy color , making the vicious waters dark unforgiving. But Soobin kept looking around with desperation, his lips quivered and he felt like crying at the mere thought of his friends drowning because of him. But his fears soon vanished when a familiar voice called him.

"Soobin, Soobin-Hyung!"

Soobin's head shoot to the direction of the call; just above the surface of the water, he could see a familiar stripped and round-headed blonde, he was struggling to swim against the waves as he kept spitting out water. After realizing his friend's struggle, Soobin immediately swam towards him, stretching his arms and embracing him to keep him afloat. "Beomgyu, it's okay, I'm right here-"

He cut off when two arms wrapped around his shoulders and a pair of legs wrapped around his torso from the back.

Taehyun clung to Soobin while trying to get his breath back. He was trembling like crazy so Soobin kept his head above the water, keeping both Taehyun and Beomgyu afloat as the waves crashed against them.

"Kai. . . Where's kai?!" Beomgyu panicked, his eyes building up with tears. "Don't tell me he drowned."

Taehyun coughed a few times while trying to spit the salty water out of his mouth before his eyes became huge with fear. "He's still down there," He then shivered at the memory of the scary figure he had seen in the dark depths of the ocean. "I saw someone grabbing onto him while trying to swim to the surface."

Soobin widened his eyes, he looked to the sides, scanning the landscapes until his eyes came in contact with an island that was not too far away from them. He immediately pushed Taehyun and Beomgyu away, his scaled arm rising from the surface and pointing at the island. "There's an island over there, go and run for it, I'll get Kai."

After Soobin's instruction, the unforgiving and harsh waters of the ocean went became calm around them; parting into two and showing them a trail that would safely lead them to their said destination.

Taehyun and Beomgyu hoped out of the water and landed on the wet sand, making their feet muddy and sending shivers up their spines at the new and weird sensation. Both boys held each other tightly as a sense of comfort, they were slightly fearful at the thought of setting foot into an island they didn't know, but Beomgyu just gave Soobin a thumbs up before grabbing Taehyun by the wrist and running down the trail with him.

After verifying that Taehyun and Beomgyu had been able to reach the island safely, Soobin closed the trail and sank into the water in search of his friend; his pupils dialed once again, he looked around and tried not to grow desperate at finding Kai. He had already lost one of his closest friends, he couldn't lose another one.

Come on, come on. Where are you?

As if Kai had listened to him, a stray feather brushed against his cheek, Soobin looked at it before looking down at where it had come from. His eyes widened and the spikes on his back perked up as he saw Kai; the younger's eyes were peacefully shut as if he was fast asleep, his forehead was exposed as his ebony hair flowed to the water's rhythm. His thin lips were sealed too, only the left corner was slightly open as bubbles erupted from the small opening.
