K-Kai?! Soobin immediately sheathed his teeth before uncurling his hands from the younger's wings and placed them on his torso instead. 

What was a feathered cutie like him doing here at the ocean?

Was he dead?

Oh, don't tell him he had killed his best friend!

Before Soobin could panic any further, Kai's silver-colored eyes fluttered open slowly. Upon realizing his situation, the younger's eyes grew big and he almost let out a scream of terror at being underwater with a syren. But of course, he just covered his mouth at realizing that if he screamed, he would lose the very limited amount of oxygen he had in his lungs.

Kai was about to push the syren away due to his instincts kicking in. . . Until he met eyes with his rather handsome captor.

He knew this one's eyes very well, they were the sweet and warm eyes of the one who had always given him a sense of comfort and protection. The same eyes that had stared so fondly at him and the eyes that Kai had missed to stare at for so long.

Soobin stayed still as Kai's soft hands brushed against his face, gently caressing his cheeks with his thumbs and carefully tracing over the small and delicate scales under his eyes. The spikes on the older's back relaxed at the soothing touch. His eyes closed and he pressed his cheeks against the younger's hands. Oh, he'd missed that kind of touch dearly after saying good-bye to Kai.

As the two shared their moment, Minho stared at the two while tilting his head, Lia and Hyuinjin swam to him so they could peek behind the older's shoulder.

"Woah. . . Look at those feathers." The violet syren's jaw almost dropped at how vibrant the colors of the macaw feathers that Kai wore, her eyes also settled on the younger's unusual swan wings. 

"He's really pretty." Hyunjin let out, his arms wrapping around Minho's shoulders. 

The older let out a nod. "Very." After that simple comment, the mood around the three syrens became slightly somber when Minho came to a rather morbid conclusion. "Since we all share the same thought. . . I say we eat him."

"Minho what the f-"

Suddenly, Kai's arms wrapped around Soobin's neck and his legs also found their way around his waist. Taking it as a sign, Soobin held onto Kai before swiftly swimming upwards towards the surface.

When they broke away from the waters of the ocean, Kai gasped for breath, his shoulders shaking as he held tighter onto his savior as he entered a coughing fic.

"Are you alright, Ning Ning?" Soobin patted the younger's back and rubbed it gently to soothe the boy from the shock that his body was feeling after being dragged into the ocean without warning.

"I'm fine. . ." The younger then rested his cheek on the Soobin's shoulder and granted himself the freedom of enjoying the familiar feeling of Soobin's arms wrapped around him. "Thanks for catching me."

And. . . That was enough to turn Soobin's heart into mush. The younger's voice sounded so small and exhausted, it made him feel slightly guilty for attacking Kai out of nowhere and submerging him into the ocean. His instincts decided to suddenly jump out, making Soobin to tighten his grip around Kai so the younger would be pressed against him.
