Yours;
Graduation was quickly approaching and I wasn't mentally prepared for it. Foolishly, I would wish for time to slow down for me. I truly wasn't ready for the upcoming disappointment that I would meet with the absence of Jimin in the audience. Why would he come? He's finally doing well with his new life. A dumb promise shouldn't disrupt that.
"Areum! Let's go!" Mom called me from down the stairs.
I sighed, taking one last look at myself in the mirror. I skipped down the stairs and to the front door. "I have to go with you?" I asked, shifting my weight.
Mom turned her head and looked at me with a perplexed look. "You don't want to go?"
I bit my bottom lip and nodded to confirm her guess.
"Why not?" She asked.
"Did you and Jungkook get in a fight or something?"I shook my head, chuckling. "No, no, Jungkook and I are fine. I just don't feel like going."
"Nonsense! Come on, you'll feel better when we're there." She insisted, passing me my shoes before exiting the house.
"Mom wait—"
Slam!
I stared at the closed door in front of me and braced myself. I had to go. This would mean seeing Mrs Jeon for the first time in a long time.
The drive felt cruelly short. I was going over every possible scenario and honestly, most of them ended in tears. I would just have to avoid being alone with her no matter what. I planned on staying glued to Jungkook.
Mom, my younger brother Jowoon, and I stood outside of the large familiar house that we lived in for most of the year.
The door swung open and I breathed in to calm the shakiness of my hands. To my relief, Jungkook was on the other side of the door, wearing black sweat pants with a baggy black T shirt on top. He welcomed my Mom with an innocent smile, telling her to enter.
Then, his eyes travelled to mine. I could tell we shared the same kind of nervousness in the pits of our stomachs. He gave me a small comforting smile as I walked in beside him.
"It's so nice to see you!" Mom hugged Jungkook's mom before taking a seat.
"I miss you guys living here! It was always so fun and lively!" Mrs Jeon pouted.
She looked at me standing awkwardly beside Jungkook. "Areum, come. Sit down!" she exclaimed with a smile.
A little confused, I did as she said. "I saw your pictures with Jungkook from prom! They were the cutest things ever. Your dress was stunning."
I awkwardly forced out a laugh. "Ah, thank you."
I secretly glanced at Jungkook who looked surprised with his mom. What happened to the cold shoulder?
"Can you help me set the table?" She asked and the hairs on my body stood, pointing up.
Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit
"I can help too!" Mom offered kindly.
"That's okay, Areum will be enough. Jungkook can you show Mrs. Jung the new backyard decorations?" Mrs Jeon walked into the kitchen and I hesitantly dragged myself off of the couch and followed her.
Now, it was just the two of us. She was washing a cucumber and peeling it to cut it.
"How are you?" She asked, not looking up from the cutting board.
