Thursday October 31st.

Otherwise known as Halloween.

Akane couldn't help but think about how Josaku appeared to already be in the Halloween spirit because of his eyes.

Speaking of which, he still didn't tell her how he got them to look like that.

But she didn't see him today.

Instead, during lunch when she bade Chen Guo and Tang Rou goodbye to go study somewhere other than the library, some other guy called her over. "Oi! Akane, right?"

She took a glance on both ends of the hallway and saw only a very few people walking around. The majority of the students were still enjoying their lunch in the canteens.

This guy had called her from another hallway that intersected with the main one, and there was no one else there. He was wearing sneakers, grey jeans and an indigo long-sleeved shirt underneath a dark blue, short-sleeved hoodie. His hair was straight and dark blue. She felt a little nervous but gulped and approached him. "Yeah... do you need something?"

He shoved his hands into his jeans' pockets and leaned against the wall, looking down. "Um, I think you're really pretty, and I was wondering if you'd like to go out with me."

Oh no.

Akane couldn't help but feel a little flattered that a guy openly told her he thought she was pretty, but that feeling was overridden by the fact that she wasn't interested in going out with any guy.

"I'm sorry," she said politely. "I'm not really interested. Maybe you'll find someone else." She hoped that sounded a little helpful and that she let him down easy.

But she felt sweat roll down her forehead when his narrow eyes spoke more than the silence surrounding them.

For a moment, his stare alone made her uneasy.

Then he got off of the wall and started walking in the direction of the canteens. "Women are so confusing..." she heard him mutter along the way.

What happened in hindsight was a simple rejection. Both parties would ideally move on with their lives.

But shortly after, a bunch of thoughts started hitting Akane all at once.

Did he simply not understand? Akane didn't even get his name, that was how confused she had felt. He just promptly left and said something that made Akane feel a bit guilty for her decision.

She never liked to be rude to people, and she thought she proved that just now.

But after watching that guy walk away, Akane wasn't sure what to feel now. She barely got to know him, and she didn't want to. There was already someone else in her life for that.

But was this how he felt when he realized she saw him talking to Ting Ting? What if he caught her talking to that guy?

Akane stared at the floor.

She shouldn't be having any doubts about Josaku whatsoever.

He never gave her any reason to doubt him so far.

Being open to considering other suitors simply wasn't an option.

With Josaku, she felt like she was talking to an old friend. He was very respectful, and they bonded over things they had in common. Like riding a motorcycle to university.

She wanted to say sorry to that guy, but found no reason to because the fact was that her heart was already taken.

A/N:

Me casually breaking that 500 word limit be like... 💥

Also, I incorporate my notes into this fic in the most unexpected ways possible sometimes. Like, I'll plan a scene and wonder how I'm gonna incorporate a character into it, and then the idea comes to me but it's not what I initially thought. By the way, this character is Mo Fan. He looks like a cool character in my opinion.

Thanks for still reading!
