When Remus returned to the dorms it was far later then he expected. His cut hadn't healed as much as Madame Pomfrey hoped it would and she tried to convince him to stay another night. However Remus was all too aware of what would happen if his friend were left alone for a night, and didn't want to head to Gyffindor tower the next day and find it was burned to the ground. So it was a very tired Remus Lupin who walked into the dorms late that night. He knew immediately that Peter was asleep from his snores that echoed around the room, and from the look of the mound in James bed so was here. Sirius however was sitting up, and very suprisingly reading.
"What you reading Padfoot?" Remus asked wandering over to his own bed.
"Lord of the Rings." Sirius said holding up the cover so Remus could see. "It's for muggle studies."
Remus', whose mother was a Muggle, was aware of the books, and had seen the movies a couple times.
"And hows Frodo doing?" Remus asked collapsing into his own bed without bothering to change.
"Doesn't look so good for him." Sirius said smiling over at Remus. "For a muggle book they sure do like magic."
"Muggles love the idea of magic they just don't understand it." Remus said. "I am surprised you continued with Muggle Studies this year considering James dropped it."
"It is interesting" Sirius said "Probably my best subject. I like learning about what your life was like growing up."
Remus was a bit surprised by this as Sirius never seem to show interest in Remus' childhood, but he was touched by it. He was so tired he couldn't keep his eyes open though so he closed them, still laying on top of the covers.
"My Dad is a wizard" Remus said "We had some magic in the house growing up. Though my Mum was never a fan, especially after what happened to me."
"It must have been scary for them." Sirius said, and Remus could hear a light thud as he put the book on his night table.
"Yeah" Remus said really not wanting to get into this subject. "Why are you still up?"
"Wanted to make sure you made it back okay." Sirius said his voice muffled as he had clearly cuddled into his bed. "I was just about to get the invisibilty cloak and the map and go check on you."
Remus was unaware if the sweetness of Sirius attitude tonight was due to him being tired, or the fact James was asleep. Either way though it made Remus smile, the first one of the day for him.
"Well I'm back" Remus said "So go to sleep Pads."
"Good night Moony" He replied with a small yawn.
Despite his exhaustion it took Remus a couple of minutes to fall asleep. His thoughts still on his conversation with Lukas that morning. He wasn't even sure if they were broken up. Or if he wanted them to be or not. In the summer there was no distractions it just felt easy, and happy. He enjoyed Lukas' personality, the way he talked, and he enjoyed sitting under summer sun reading next to him. But here in the castle everything felt different. Remus was finding himself returning to his normal life, and as much as he complain about James' constant pining over Lily, Peter's constant snoring, eating, and complaining, and Sirius' nack for getting into trouble, he loved his normal life. Lukas was changing too. So what if Remus' wasn't ready, didn't he get to choose. Remus' could understand if Lukas found the sneaking around annoying but it was more then that. Lukas didn't like Remus friends, or life, and it made Remus' feel like Lukas wanted to change him.
He wasn't sure when he feel asleep, but he woke up the sun streaming into his eyes, like he did everyday. He Showered, changed, and got ready before returning to wake his friends. Who grumbled and got ready like they did everyday. With James making some comments about how Remus was their Mum, and how they would miss all their classes without him. They head down to the Great Hall, and Remus' couldn't help but feel better. The weather was still warm, his courses were going well, he had weeks till the next full moon, and most importantly he had his friends laughing beside him.
The four of them happily walked over to their table and took a seat at the end next to Lily and Alice. They joined into a light hearted conversation about Gryffindor's up coming Quidditch game against Ravenclaw. Remus was so engaged in listening to Sirius describe the newest stragety he had learned for stealing the quaffle that he didn't realize someone was standing behind him till he heard a cough. He turned around to see Lukas standing behind him looking angry.
"HI." Remus said awkwardly as all his friends stopped talking to see what was happening.
"Oh sorry!" Lukas said in a gruff, and angry voice"Am I interrupting you!"
"I mean we are just having breakfast."Remus muttered wanting so desperately to melt into the floor and disappear from this conversation.
"Well I know how much you hate being seen with me." Lukas said almost at a yell now. HIs eyes were red, and puffy, which looked like a nasty combination of a lack of sleep and maybe a little crying.
"Please just go" Remus whispered with an intense desperation. Many people across the Gryffindor table were looking up at them now.
"Oh of course you want me to just disappear-" Lukas started before Sirius cut in angrily.
"He said go, so leave mate." Sirius spat causing everyone else in the great hall to look at them. There very few times Remus had seen the great hall this quiet, even the proffesor up at the staff table were silent watching clearly wondering if they should intervene. But decieded not to it and continued to watch.
"I don't take demands from pure blood elistest!" Lukas snarled back.
"He isn't Lukas, you know that." Remus said raising from his seat to see if he could get Lukas to leave "Let's talk outside"
"Why your embrassed again" Lukas said "scared I'll tell everyone your secret."
Sirius, James, and Peter, began to rise as well, clearly thinking he was refering to Remus being a werewolf. But in some ways Remus felt worse about this. The whole school had their eyes on him now, and his friends were standing up to defend him. His friends who had told him not all that long ago he was not a monster were about to look at him with disgust. They would probably now look at him as a monster. Moments ago Remus was walking down the halls so unbelieveably grateful for his friends. But he knew the words that were about to come out of Lukas' before he said.
"You don't want your idiot group of friends to know how you spread your legs for me"
