"I'm gay." Sirius said.
Half their year was sitting around the fire in the Gryffindor. Alice and Frank where shamelessly flirting. Marlene and Remus were agruing over the correct answer to the homework. James and Lily were surprising chatting happily. Peter looked a little bored. It was one of those Saturday afternoons that was both forgettable but also defining of who they were during their time at Hogwarts.
"Hi gay I'm James"
A small laugh was let out at this. And everyone started to return to their conversations.
"Hey excuse me!" Sirius said clapping his hands and bring everyone's attention back to him "I'm gay!"
"We heard you the first time" Marlene said.
"And no ones gonna say anything. Like this is my moment." Sirius replied. He was seated on the floor since all the couches and chairs where full so he threw his body on the floor dramatically.
"So what exactly is it you want us to say?" Lily said looking at him with a slightly raised eyebrow.
"You are suppose to go woah Sirius I had no idea. And then I go it's been a journey but I'm here. Then you say wow this is a lot to take in. Then I go I know but I'm the same person I always was your most handsome friend Sirius. Then you go okay we accept you, you are brave and we are proud of you." Sirius said.
There was a bit of a pause then Maralene said "we should get ready Quidditch practice starts soon."
"Let's go grab our stuff Padfoot." James said standing up and extending an arm to Sirius which he reluctantly grabbed, and James aggressively pulled him up.
"Just so you all know this has been wildly disappointing." Sirius mumbled but as he walked passed Remus he smiled at him in an almost proud fashion, and suddenly he realized that it was definitely worth it.
Sirius and James headed up to the dormitory to grab their quidditch stuff. Sirius couldn't help but be actually happy at the fact he had told his friends. He knew his friends reaction was different then his family or the worlds would be. But it felt like a start.
"You really don't mind? Like you aren't even surprised or anything?" Sirius said as they entered the dormitory.
"Of course I don't mind Padfoot. We just went through this Remus. We're best mates. How you feel about dicks doesn't change that." James said heading over to his stuff "and I'm not exactly surprised. I knew something was up when you said you were the reason Remus had been unhappy, that you must be keeping something from me. And this makes sense. Plus it's not like I've ever seen you actually be interested in a girl."
Sirius smiled a little as he grabbed his quidditch robes.
"Okay, thanks" Sirius said a little awkwardly.
"I haven't done anything" James said seemingly genuinely confused, and Sirius felt a wave of gratitude for his friend, for him thinking that he hadn't done anything, when in fact he'd done so much. "But you gotta tell me what's going on with you and Moony?"
Sirius had been expecting this. In part because he had told James that he was the reason Remus had been upset, but more just because they were both not straight, and he assumed everyone's mind would just go, yup both like guys they date now.
"Nothing." Sirius said saying what he rehearsed in his head "This doesn't have anything to do with what happened with Remus. I just said some hurtful things because I was confused."
"What I hear is your dating" James said grinning and Sirius just shoved him, as they started to head back to the common room so they could head to Quidditch.
