Reader's POV

"Y/n! Wake up!" Hermione shook y/n awake as she hid under her covers. "It's Christmas!" Y/n pulled the covers away from her face and smiled at Hermione.

"Happy Christmas." Y/n spoke, sitting up in her bed. Hermione grinned at y/n and grabbed her hand, pulling her out of bed.

"Happy Christmas." Hermione responded before pulling y/n out into the Gryffindor common room. "We have presents!"

"Happy Christmas!" Ron and Harry both greeted y/n and Hermione, who greeted them back. The four then sat in a circle around the Christmas tree and handed each other their assigned gifts., which the paper was torn off the presents fairly quickly.

"What's that one?" Ron questioned, pointing the small box that was almost hidden in between the stilts holding up the tree. Harry shrugged and reached for it, reading the name of who it was addressed to.

"It's for you." Harry spoke, handing over the small box to y/n, who was confused. She had received gifts from everyone that she knew would give her something, but this one only had a note attached with no name other than hers.

"You would've made a great Slytherin." The note read and y/n got a flash back to the day she was sorted into her house.

----

"Y/N Y/L/N." Professor McGonagall called out, making y/n gulp. Everyone looked at her while she made her way to the sorting hat and she sat down on the stool, scared of where she might be placed. The hat was then placed on her head.

"Hmm, difficult. You are loyal, very loyal. You are a natural leader, but also daring, maybe even reckless at times. Very ambitious." The sorting hat spoke. "Better be..." The hat went quiet for about five minutes as it thought of where to put her.

"SLYTHERIN." The hat called and y/n's heart dropped. How could she be a Slytherin? Only the worst witches and wizards came from there.

Y/n looked at the Slytherin table, where they were scowling over a Mud Blood being a Slytherin, although, some cheered. Professor McGonagall went to pull the hat off of y/n's head when the hat screeched.

"Hold on woman, I have changed my mind." The hat spoke, and the whole room went silent, a few gasps to be heard.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat screamed and y/n breathed a sigh of relief, Although she was extremely confused as to why she had her house changed so suddenly, especially in front of the entire school.

----

"Well. go on, open it!" Hermione nudged y/n's shoulder and y/n once again, looked down at the gift. She pulled the ribbon off the box and pulled the lid off. Harry let out a gasp. Inside was a silver snake ring with two stones, green and red, being held by the snake.

"Oh my, who would've sent you that?" Hermione gasped as Ron snatched the box out of y/n's hand to inspect the piece of jewelry.

"Not a clue." Y/n spoke, trying to think of who might've sent it. "Maybe it was from my mother, probably just assumed I would know it was from her?" Y/n guessed.

"But your mother was a Gryffindor, wasn't she?" Harry sighed, snatching the box from Ron's hands and giving it back to y/n.

"Yeah, but she knew the Slytherin's very well." Y/n shrugged, putting the ring on her left middle finger.

"Well, almost everyone in school knows about what happened with the sorting hat, so it could be anyone, maybe even Dumbledore." Hermione spoke and Y/n agreed.

----

"Hermione." Y/n whispered as Hermione put on her makeup, getting ready for the Yule ball. "I got you an extra Christmas present, I just didn't want to give it to you with everyone around." Before Hermione could even protest, y/n shoved the box into Hermione's hands.

"You didn't have too." Hermione smiled at y/n, who nodded back with a grin.

Hermione pulled open the box and gasped. Inside was a silver necklace with a diamond crested charm.

"Y/n-"

"I thought it would go well with your dress." Y/n smiled at Hermione, who looked like she was going to cry.

"It looks expensive." Hermione whispered, holding the charm between her fingers.

"Don't worry about how much it costs." Y/n shrugged at Hermione.

"Thank you y/n. So much." Hermione smiled, pulling the necklace out of the box and clasping it around her neck.

"It looks beautiful on you!" Y/n squealed in excitement and Hermione giggled.

They both helped each other with their make up and then got dressed into their gowns. Hermione wearing a pink, silk-like dress, and y/n wearing the black dress her mother got for her. They slipped on their shoes and grinned at each other.

"You make your way to the ball, I have to wait here for Cedric to get me." Y/n smiled, Hermione nodding at her and leaving y/n alone at the door of the Gryffindor common room - alone with the fat lady.
