'Blood Isn't What Makes A Family'

I exit the bathroom after taking my makeup off and turn my TV on to watch supernatural while I make myself a cup of tea. Once the kettle has boiled I pour in the hot water and sit down on the couch
Dean: "Must be rough... to believe in something so much and have it disappoint you like that."
Layla: "I'm OK. Really. I guess if you're gonna have faith, you can't just have it when the miracles happen. You have to have it when they don't."
My phone rings, I pause the TV and notice the number on my phone is a Kansas number I answer the phone
"Hello?"
"Miss Martínez, this is Sherif Miller from Sedgwick County Jail. I am calling you in regards to your father"
"Ok?"
"I'm sorry to inform you but one of our guards found him dead this afternoon, he had hanged himself, he left a note addressed to you. Would you like us to send it to you?"
"Errrr, yeah I guess"
"We're sorry for your loss"
"Don't be, he was an awful human being, thank you for letting me know" I put the phone down and sit staring at it in shock of what I just heard. I literally have no biological family left now, I wasn't close to my father for obvious reasons. He was a drunken fool who left me alone multiple times when I was little so he could get laid and drink while Mamá was working her ass off at the hospital. It was Colbys mom who ended up phoning the police on him as she could hear me crying and screaming, she knocked on the door but obviously no answer......

"Mamá" I screamed in my bedroom as loud as I could. Dad has left me alone again. He shouted at me before he left saying I was a mistake and that I shouldn't have been born "Mamá" I yell trying to open the door that my father had locked me in "Mamá" I bang on the door. I give up going to sit on my bed and begin to cry. A few moment later I hear someone walking up the stairs "Mamá?" I call out
"Natalia it's Lorraine (just made up a name for his mum) Colbys mum can you open the door"
"Dad locked it"
"Ok sweetheart do you know where the key is" I shake my head "Natalia?"
"No I don't know"
"Ok. I'll be back in a minute ok?" I hear her leave but a few minutes later I can hear footsteps walking up the stairs once again and the door is beginning to crack. I watch as the door breaks off it's hinges and I see Colbys mom and dad on the other side. Lorraine crouch's down and I run up to her hugging her
"Thank you" I cry into her chest as she strokes my hair.

I'm pulled out of my flashback as I feel something drip onto my hands. I look down and notice my jeans were wet, I look up to see if the roof was leaking but no. I realise that it's me, my eyes to be exact. I'm crying. I look back at my phone and see our group chat is bursting with life, I open up the chat trying to read what everyone's on about but my mind is all over the place so I just put it back down leaving everyone on read. Almost immediately there's a knock on the door then some keys jiggling in the lock
"Talia I think we all know you by now that when we're talking about Disney your the first to jump into the conversation. So what's going on because you didn't reply to the group chat asking if you want to go to Disney land?" I hear Sam say as he's walking into my apartment I don't turn around to look at them
"We know you to well. You always answer the group chat and never leave us on read. If you were busy you wouldn't have opened the chat up. Plus I've text you and you haven't replied" Colby chuckles shutting the door "babe?" I hear Colby say and footsteps coming towards me "baby what's wrong"
"Se fue" (he's gone)
"Huh?" I feel Colby sit next to me on the couch, I still haven't looked at him or Sam yet
"My father. He's gone" I finally take a shaky breath and look up to Colby "he's dead"
"Oh Talia" Colby puts his hand on my thigh and rubs his thumb in a comforting way as Sam puts his arm around my shoulders and hugs me
"I'm not even crying that he's dead, I'm crying because I don't have any family left. I'm such a horrible person"
"Ok 1 you are not a horrible person. He neglected you. 2 I never want to hear you say that you don't have family. You have me and my family. You have Sam and his family. You've got Jake, Corey, Kat, devyn, Tara, need I go on? Your family may not be blood related but that's not what makes us family. We are a family. I promise you"
"Colbys right. Blood isn't what makes a family"
"Apparently he left a note, the police are sending it to me"
"You don't have to read it if you don't want to"
"I know but maybe he apologises, that's all I ever wanted to hear from him"
"I know, but don't get your hopes up. He might say something in the note that you don't want to read" Sam says getting a glare of Colby "all I'm saying is if you want one of us to read it first then we will"
"Thanks" I smile at Sam
"Do you want me to stay the night tonight or you can come to my apartment?"
"Can both of you stay? Can we get blankets and watch films on the couch. Like we used to in the trap house?"
"Of course princess" Colby kisses my forehead
"Want me to ring Corey and Jake?" I nod my head and Sam walks over to the balcony "Everything's going to be ok" Colby calmly says to me while holding my hands in his hands
"I blame you guys and the Biltmore hotel for my emotions" I laugh "since we've been trying to contact the paranormal I swear I've cried more in the past month than I have since.... god knows when"
"It's good though. You scared me after the car accident, like you had no emotions after their funeral. Like you said before your finally grieving and now you've just had this to top it all off, but I'm here. I always will be. I love you so much that I'd be willing to pull a Dean and go to hell just to keep you safe. You are the world and I'm the rock that's crashed into it. When I think I can't love you more than I already do I wake up and it's like my heart grows even bigger" I smile at Colby then wrap my arms around him
"Te amo mi amor" (I love you my love) Sam walks back in and let's us know that Jake and Corey are on their way over.

Once they arrive they do everything they can in order to make me laugh, to which they succeed. Corey and Jake fake and argument over cookies, Sam and Colby bring back Samantha and Colleen. We try to make brownies but end up all covered in flower. Times like this I miss the trap house, I love being around these idiots.
