First Choice (Daisuga)

Daichi proves to Sugawara that he is his first choice.

"He looks so beautiful standing there." Daichi thought

Sugawara was standing on the sidelines of the court, arms crossed, intently watching the game.

His lips were slightly puckered out, face angled in all the right directions and charming posture was enough to keep the captain captivated. 

Daichi stared at his boyfriend any time he had while playing in the practice game. He absolutely adored the older, but he had to focus on the game every once in a while.

Coach Ukai and Takeda noticed and laughed to themselves, young love.

"Might want to keep your eyes more forward, Daichi." Asahi nervously said as Daichi almost missed a receive by looking at the side

Sugawara took notice and turned his attention to Daichi.

"Anything wrong? Whats distracting you?" He lightly asked 

"Oh nothing!" Daichi said, a blush playing across his face

"Is the captain blushing?" Hinata genuinely asked a bit too loudly and everyone turned to Daichi

"Oh, he definitely is." Tsukishima confirmed 

"HEY! Keep your eyes to the front." Daichi said, face full on red now

"Sorry captain!" Hinata exclaimed

They all let out some chuckles as they looked straight forward again, resuming practice.

Practice went on without a problem, everyone working hard because they had a game against Aoba Johsai soon. 

Soon enough, practice was over for the day. 

Everyone packed their belongings and piled out. People joining their walking buddies respectfully.

Daichi and Sugawara stood side to side, hands intertwined with one another as they walked home.

"Such a beautiful night don't you think Daich?" Sugawara said

"Yeah it really is." Daichi agreed "Especially having you with me in it."

Sugawara's face heated up as he tried to hit Daichi's arm lightly.

"Now you got me all flustered!" Sugawara said, aiming his hand when Daichi grabbed his wrist and pushed him against a buildings wall

"You have a hitting problem babe." Daichi said 

"I do it lightly!" Sugawara lightly pouted "And playfully."

"I know sweetheart." Daichi said, leaning in and pecking the shorter's lips

"My turn." Sugawara said and flipped the two of them, Daichi pushed up against the wall now

"Why were you so distracted today at practice?" Sugawara asked with that pointed look in his eyes, enticing anyone to tell him the truth

"I was just staring at you." Daichi smiled, putting his hands on the older's waist

"Focus on your game. You have a game against Aoba Johsai soon!" Sugawara lightly scolded

"You?" Daichi said

"I..I mean we." Sugawara said

"For some reason i'm not inclined to believe that Sugawara." Daichi said, looking into the setters eyes

Sugawara looked down slightly, Daichi lightly cupped the older's cheeks as he pulled up his face to look him in the eye.

"Hey. You know you're part of the team as well. Your the vice captain and a setter. We need you." Daichi said

"Substitute setter Daich." Sugawara sighed "Vice captain. The second choice."

Daichi stared at the silver headed boys face as he avoided eye contact.

"I'm always the second choice Daichi, all my life! I know I said I wanted the team to win and I still do. Kageyama is our best chance as a setter so it makes sense." Sugawara said tearfully "But I can't help but feel horrible each time I have to go in and set, because i'm not the first choice."

Daichi stayed quiet, letting the older let it all out.

"I wouldn't want to be the captain honestly, you make an amazing captain. But it just sucks still barely making first place." Sugawara said

Daichi pulled his astonishing boyfriend into a hug, tightly wrapping his arms around him while stroking his hair comfortingly. 

"I love you." Daichi said "You.. you are my first choice."

Sugawara looked up at him.

"I'll prove it to you." Daichi said

☾ Timeskip: A Couple Years Later ☽

"Hey!" Sugawara said, walking up to the private booth in the restaurant and sitting on the opposing seat of his long time boyfriend

"Hey baby." Daichi smiled, pulling the curtains behind him

"Wow. I still can't believe Asahi and Noya got married last week." Sugawara said, settling down

"Yeah, it was pleasant. Tanaka was crying as he stood there with Nishinoya." Daichi smiled

"Well his best friend got married. He was more a mess at his wedding though, he almost bawled when Kiyoko stepped out." Sugawara said

"Who would've thought Kiyoko and Tanaka along with Asahi and Noya would end up married." Daichi teased

"I told you! My predictions are correct." Sugawara said

"Lets look at the menu." Daichi said, opening his "Happy anniversary baby."

Sugawara smiled widely at his partner "Happy anniversary."

☾ Timeskip: After Dinner ☽

"This is amazing." Sugawara moaned at the ice cream they were given for desert

"Don't act like that ice cream can make you louder then I can." Daichi teased

"It can't." Sugawara smiled

The two were talking it out, laughing at each others jokes throughout the evening. 

"And Noya almost got cold feet. Tsukishima offered to guard him for some reason. I always knew he liked weddings." Sugawara said

"Speaking of which." Daichi said, fiddling with the velvety box in his pocket

Sugawara gazed at the younger as he stood up, getting on one knee.

"Sugawara Koshi. I've loved you since high school. We've started out everything together, school, volleyball, friends. I loved most days knowing I'd be able to see your face... So when we started dating I was ecstatic. I couldn't keep my eyes off of you, I loved you so much. So i'm here today to ask you a question that i've wanted to for a long time." Daichi said "Sugawara Koshi.."

"Will you marry me?"

Sugawara stared tearfully as he launched from his seat and hugged the dark brown headed male.

"Yes." Sugawara said as Daichi bounced right back up to hug him

"I love you." Sugawara cried

"I love you too." Daichi said "You are my first choice Koshi. I'll prove it to you on that day and for the rest of our lives."

Sugawara smiled happily as he hugged the man.

He felt important, loved.

That's all he needed.
