"Who was it?" Boss asked.
"It was a friend." I lied.
"Calling the shop?" Marie was confused.
"Yeah, I mistakenly ended up giving her this number over mine." I lied again. Marie did a "huh" face.

"Anyway boss, may I take some calorie blast muffins for myself," I ask.
"I thought you were on a diet " He answered gleefully.
"cheat day" I lied. Marie looked suspicious. Boss nodded.

I go to the counter and pack two muffins quickly. I feel Marie hovering around my shoulder hence I turn...
"whats going on?" Marie asks. Shit

"What..nothing...pfft. of course.." I stutter. I realise I used the word "her" when Marie knew it was a guy over the phone.
Midway I give up... "I'll explain everything later I promise."

Marie dropped her suspicious face and smirked. "A promise is a promise" She reassured and let me do my thing. "Go, I'll handle the cleaning." Marie encouraged me. She knew something was different with me, which I could not explain myself.

I took off my apron. Gave Boss and Marie shoulder parts, taking my leave. I wore my backpack and the muffin box in my hand.

Thankfully the bus was still running. I ran towards the stop. I caught the bus as it was allowed to leave.

As I arrived near the stadium's bus stop, ..... it rained. FUCK

I quickly ran towards the shelter. I was drenched. The entrance to the stadium was 3 minutes walk. But it was raining super heavy.

My dumbass did not take his number to inform about my situation. He must be waiting. For some reason, I did not want him to think I'm a bluff.

I look over the watch. It was 7:36. I had 2 minutes to run towards the entrance. The stadium and the nearby area was empty. It looked a little spooky. But I had no choice. I had to run. I covered the muffin box with my jacket and ran.

I reached the entrance. He was not around. I looked at my watch it was 7:39 dot.

"You are drenched" I heard someone behind me. My heart almost dropped. As I turned, I faced his large chest. I look up, and there he was looking at me, stoic as ever.

"I forgot my umbrella," I explained...his eyes somehow softened.

"You are a minute late..." He spoke...but I broke him off.
"Yes Yes, I know I am sorry, I did not check the weather...."
"I was worried..." He completed his sentence. My heart melted a little.

"oh," I say. There we were middle of heavy rain. In a volleyball world cup stadium's entrance. And an awkward silence.

I sneezed. Silence broke.

"Excuse me," I say. "
It is okay." He replied. My brain almost giggled because the reply did not fit.  He was so different.

"Oh yeah.." I put forward the muffin box. His eyes wandered a little. "Your muffins." I smile. He goes placing his opened umbrella on the floor.

He receives the box with both hands and bows, "thank you, Y/n-san".

"It is okay" I replied with a soft smile.

He opened the box. He gives himself a slight nod. But I noticed. He was softly smiling, almost unnoticeable but I saw.

"I got a different flavoured whip. I did not know which flavour, so I got one with caramel, and another one is cherry." I explained.
"I was about to mention the flavours, but you dropped the call before I could." He explained, my face dropped.
"Sorry, it is my fault.." I reply.
"Yes." He replies without much emotion. This guy does not sugar-coat anything.

He opens the box and sees two large muffins.
"It looks appetizing," He says with a straight face. He is so confusing.

"Well then, I guess I have to go now..." I reply, not wanting another awkward silence.

I see the rain has not stopped. I step outside the shelter a little but ....

"You can use my umbrella" He replies. I turn back not sure how to respond.

"Are you sure? How will you go back?" I ask.
"By walking." He replies, his face seemed like I asked some dumb question.
"No, Um I mean...how will you go back without your umbrella, because it is, raining," I ask. I cannot believe I am explaining my question.
"Good question. I have decided you need the umbrella more than me. My hotel is near-by" He deduces.
"Oh...then.." I look at the muffins. "but the muffins..it might get ruined?" I ask.
"I am planning to eat here." He replies.  What did he say? why?

"I cannot let you," I spoke. I don't want him to eat it here, it is just sad. He looked a bit taken back.
"I mean...late-night desserts should be enjoyed at the comfort of your bed..." I tried to explain. "I eat on the table." He replies. Oh god, how do I explain?
"No, I mean..." I say.
"7:40 pm. It is not late-night. " He continued. There he goes with his logic
"Um, It is....It is in Canada..." I lied.
"Oh." Ushijima was now little apologetic. "I apologise. I should have assumed..different country may have a different cultural understanding with time."
"It is alright. All I am trying to..say..uh..you should eat when you reach your hotel. So you can take the umbrella...so the muffins don't ruin." I make him understand.
"I cannot." He spoke little melancholically.
 "Huh," I enquired.
"My room-mate..." He tried to explain looking down on the floor, carefully.
"Okay, I understood. " I interrupt. He looks up and his eyes are facing me with slight curiosity.
"It's raining. You insist me on taking the umbrella, vice versa....how about we both wait until the rain stops, and you eat the muffins by then ...." I look around. "Yes! Inside that little shelter over there with tables and chairs..." I point.
"Okay If you say so." He agrees and walks off to pick up his umbrella without any debates. Sometimes I wonder if there is a soul of a robot inside him.
He raises his umbrella to share. The umbrella was definitely small, his wide shoulders made it worse with the available space. As we walked towards the other shelter awkwardly.....

I realised I did a big mistake. The epitome of awkward moments was going to be this evening with Ushijima.
