Aspen's POV

I groaned as my phone began buzzing.

The clock on my wall ticked towards 3 am.

"Hello?" I grumbled.

"Hey girl! Guess who's flying into London next week!"

"What?"

"Yeah! I got special clearance. They're sending in UN envoys and I'm hitching along for the ride," Katia spoke excitedly.

"Uh, when?" I asked, scratching my head as I stood up.

"Next week, I just said that dummy," she chuckled.

"Kat that's not a good idea," I sighed, rubbing my eyes.

"Oh shush, I'll be fine. If you can do it, I can do it."

"It's dangerous."

"Everything is dangerous if you want it to be."

"Katia, I need you to really think about this."

"I already did. What do I have to lose?"

Your life.

"Fine. Call me when you land."

The beeping of the dial tone left a heavy silence in my room.

My mind was a mess.

I was already fucked in the head after last night.

Everest had a fiance. He was getting married.

And I kissed him.

The worst part was, I enjoyed it.

I sighed, leaning back against the headboard.

Suddenly, a loud bang caught my attention. Getting up, I hurried to the door of my room.

I opened it slightly and the sound of muffled shouting reached my ears.

"Don't come crying to me when you lose the crown," a voice shouted as the door to Everest's study opened.

"I don't give a damn about the crown anymore."

"You lie. You're power hungry and it runs in your blood. You crave it. Without the crown, you're nothing."

"Leave."

"You know I'm right Everest. Say hi to your little advisor for me, would you? I've been hearing things. I heard she's got quite th-"

"Finish that sentence and it'll be a miracle you walk on your own two feet," Everest threatened. I felt my body chill at his tone, even more rattled that his father knew about me.

"Threatening your old man, I'd tread carefully Everest. Remember how you got here."

With that, the former King walked away and disappeared down the hall. I heard Everest sigh as I slowly stepped out into the hall.

"Are you alright?" I asked quietly, catching him by surprise.

"What are you doing up?"

"Phone call from overseas," I replied and he nodded.

He looked tired as if the last 5 minutes had sucked all the energy out of him.

"How does he know about me."

Everest looked up at me, his hazel eyes were dark with anger.

"Word travels fast. He doesn't know you're American, and it better stay that way."
