Hola peoples!

I was having a field day looking at your comments on the last chapter 💀

Oh the joys of being an author :)

But seriously, almost none of y'all saw that coming even though I thought someone might pick up on it.

I tried to slip in really tiny clues because ngl, it's hard af to keep y'all from guessing the entire plot of the book before I've even written it myself 😭

Third Person's POV

Confusion.

Anger.

Betrayal.

Regret.

Disappointment.

Sadness.

Too many emotions ran through Everest.

It didn't matter that it was a matter of blood relation. He couldn't help but glare daggers at his sister as anger burned in his veins.

Connor stared wide eyed at the scene playing out in front of him, his mouth open in shock.

Zoe kissing Aspen in front of her brother, who had the biggest crush in the history of crushes.

At any other moment it may have been comical. But Connor knew Everest's feelings for Aspen and this was a like a punch in the gut.

From the way his eyes had darkened, his hands fisting by his sides, Connor knew he had to do something before shit hit the fan.

"Aspen! How are you feeling?" he asked, shoving Zoe out of the way.

Aspen stood motionless, staring absentmindedly ahead with glassy eyes.

Zoe felt like her heart had been ripped in two by her lack of reaction. She felt like strangling whoever had come up with the phrase "shoot your shot."

Clearly, that wasn't the appropriate decision judging by the deadly glare her brother was giving her.

Connor couldn't help but curse her out in his mind for her awful timing.

Everest wracked his brain, trying to thing of the several times his sister had mentioned her love interest.

It never crossed his mind that this person could be someone he knew.

He suddenly recalled that Zoe never revealed their gender, always referring to Aspen as "they" or "them.

He was stupid not to notice it.

Although she seemed to be emotionless, Aspen's mind was spinning.

Too many things were happening at once.

She just wanted to go to sleep in her own bed. She wanted to fall into a deep slumber beside her mother as she played with her hair.

Her breathing quickened as the walls of the hospital seemed to close in on her.

Connor's eyes widened as he noticed Aspen start to hyperventilate.

He scanned the room trying to find the doctor who seemed to have vanished at the worst time.

"Aspen, are you alright?"

She couldn't respond, her eyes turning glass as her body began to tremble.

"Aspen? What's wrong?" Zoe asked, touching her shoulder gently.

Her hand was harshly pushed away, catching the princess by surprise.
