"You did good at the conference." Dario said from behind me.
No thanks to you is what I wanted to say but I didn't feel like getting hit on today.
"Thank you."
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"Two of the victims funeral is today."
"And you're attending?"
"Yes it's the least I could do."
"You are not obligated to do such a thing and besides you've already covered all costs of the funeral which you also were not obligated to do."
"I am very much aware of that Dario. These people are in pain, the least I could do is show that I care enough to show support."
"Where are you going?" I decided to change the topic.
"I'm meeting with my father and brothers. We have much to discuss."
"Like the De Luca's?"
"Sí." He nodded.
"What happens now?" I was afraid of the answer but I still wanted to know.
"Don't worry about that right now. Is Valentino or Lorenzo accompanying you today?"
"They both are, yes."

It has been a long day indeed. I attended two funerals today and had to go to the police station to be questioned on the investigation. Dario was against me going but I was well aware of what I could not say. What I wasn't aware of is the police knowing full well that this was mafia related business. According to the young woman who spoke to me, they just needed me to be questioned due to protocol. Thanks to Lorenzo I learnt that these officers are all on the Romano payroll. Typical. Just another reminder of how much power Dario truly holds in this country—how much power he holds over me and that I could never escape him. He could kill me today and no one would care nor would there be any justice. If I wasn't his wife, I would simply be a nobody.
"Great you're awake, get dressed we're going to a party."
"Are you insane Camilla?"
"Relax, you'll just stay away from the drinks now that I know you're pregnant. I won't let you do anything reckless."
