Shubman sighed, it had been five long years since he'd broken up with his girlfriend Sanya. He'd partly blamed himself for it. She'd left her world behind just to be with him. Five years ago, he'd decided that it would be for the better if he took her away from the demons of her toxic family.

Often, his mind would wander back to his memories of her. The two of them had a little cheesy dialogue that they would repeat to each other after every fight.

"Forever or Never?" She'd asked him, when she was nestled in his arms.

"Forever," He'd repeat, confirming that he'd love her forever.

But he'd lied, or so he felt like it. They began to fight more and more often, unknowingly or knowingly, they'd drifted apart.

"Excuse me?" A little girl's voice snapped him away from his depressed thoughts. She reminded him of Sanya for some reason. The toddler, who appeared around 4, smiled at him, which showed off her adorable little dimples. She had straight jet black hair, just like Sanya.

Why am I comparing everyone I see today to Sanya? He wondered miserly.

"I can't find my mama," The girl's lower lip quivered, and Shubman felt a sense of protectiveness toward her.

"Do you know her number?" Shubman pulled out his phone, and the girl nodded. She narrated the number, and he pressed the call button. A person answered the call after a few rings, he handed the phone to the little girl.

"Okay, Mumma!" The little girl exclaimed after a few minutes, and told Shubman the address that her mother had told her.

"Oh, my gods! Ananya, are you alright?" A woman with jet black hair, and the same mesmerizing brown eyes as someone he knew, hugged the toddler.

"I'm fine, Mumma!" Ananya exclaimed happily, and Shubman finally got a clear view of Ananya's mother's face.

The air was sucked out of his lungs.

It was Sanya,

His Sanya,

"Sanya?" He managed to say before his mouth went dry.

"-Shubman?" Sanya's voice was edging with disbelief, and Ananya's gaze flicked from him to her.

"So, is this Papa?" Ananya asked in a hushed tone, and Sanya gestured for Ananya to go inside.

"Is... Is that... my daughter?" His eyes widened with disbelief, and Sanya looked away, confirming his suspicions.

"Why didn't you tell me!?" His voice was rising with obvious anger.

"Thanks for bringing Ananya, you can leave now." Sanya cut him off abruptly, her voice was eerily cold.

"Sanya, I didn't even know that I had a daughter for around four years now." Shubman was stubborn.

"Oh? This amazing thought didn't occur to you when we were both 21? You left me when I was five months pregnant." Sanya clenched her jaw, and Shubman took a step back in surprise.

"You were pregnant?" He whispered, and Sanya responded with a sharp nod.

For the next few weeks, he'd decided to visit Sanya more often. Ananya had gotten used to his visits quickly, but it was Sanya who hated it. But their bond went from, Enemies to close friends. He began to confide everything with her. Just one day, he could hold in the secret no longer.

"Sanya, can I ask you something?" He mustered up his courage, and Sanya hummed a response.

"Forever or Never?" He spoke, and Sanya whirled around to face him. He knew what he was asking for was preposterous, he was asking for a second chance. Sanya's mind was racing at a thousand miles per hour. She calmed herself, before answering.

"Forever,"
