Our mythology is dominated by two dynasties, Suryavansh and Chandravansh.

So Suryavansh started from King Ikshvaku, who was the son of Manu, who was the son of Suryadev.

There was a brother of Ikshvaku was called Sudyumn, once he entered a forest where Mahadev and Mata Parvati were spending leisure time, the forest was such than only female creatures could be there.

So when Sudyumn entered the forest, he became a woman. He complained this to Mahadev and a solution was proposed that during Krishna paksh he will be a woman and during Shukla paksh he will be man.

So the woman Sudyumn came to be known as Ila and was married to Budh graha (mercury) who was neither a man nor a woman. Why ?

The father of Budh graha, Chandradev fell in love with Tara, the wife of Brihaspati (Jupitar). Upon realizing that his wife is having an illegitimate relationship with Chandra, Brihaspati cursed that their child will be born as a Napunsak.

So Budh once asked his mother Tara, whether he will find a life partner and if yes then would the partner be male or female ? Tara assured him that Paramatma must have some plan for him.

And thus he married Ila, who just like him is neither a man or woman at this point. And from there the Chandravansh started.

Now you must have seen that the story of Suryavansh is very straightforward, while the story of Chandravansh is very complicated.

Just like story of Suryavansh, the stories of Suryavanshi Kings like Harishchandra, Raghu, Bhagirath, Dashrath, Shri Ram etc are very clear cut and straightforward.

And just like the story of Chandravansh, the stories of Chandravanshi kings are very complicated, twisted and mostly in the darkness like the story of Yayati, Yadu, Kauravas and Pandavas, they are not clear cut or straightforward at all.

Thats why Shri Ram was born in Suryavansh, his purpose of life was kill Ravan and teach Dharma by ruling as the Chakravartin Samrat. Very straightforward and clear cut.

But the life purpose of Krishna is very complicated, he has to deal with a lot of twisted people, and thus Krishna was born in Chandravansh. Because to deal with twisted people you have to be twisted yourself.

You only think, Shri Ram couldn't have dealt with the twisted problems of Mahabharat, because he was too straightforward and clear in his ways. Only Krishna is twisted enough to deal with Shakuni and others like him.

So is there any amalgamation of these two dynasties ?

Yes, the marriage of Dushyant and Shakuntala is the amalgamation of these two dynasties. Shakuntala was the daughter of Vishwamitra, who was a Suryavanshi King turned sage, and Dushyant was a Chandravanshi king.

And their son was called Bharat, who was the Chakravartin Samrat of Aryavart, and on him the nation came to be known as Bharatvarsh.

This is a very good symbolism that that Suryavansh and Chandravansh together formed Bharatvarsh.
