Bharat ke Jaichand !

Most of you must've come across this slang that is used for traitors. But do you know its origin ?

Maharaj Jaichand was the king of the great kannauj samrajya and father of Sanyogita (also known as Sanyukta) the wife of the great Prithviraj Chauhan.

For those who aren't familiar with their story, Maharaj Jaichand and Prithviraj Chauhan were rivals, and Sanyogita was in love with the Prithviraj.

Maharaj Jaichand ofcourse didn't approve it and hence Prithviraj Chauhan eloped with Sanyogita from her Swayamvar.

Jaichand tried to attack Prithviraj Chauhan but the great king defeated Kannauj-raj.

Maharaj Jaichand was so humiliated that he invited Mohammad Ghori to invade Delhi, the capital of Prithviraj Chauhan's empire and in future this became the reason for Islamic rule in India.

Some even say that Maharaj Jaichand supplied troops and weapons to Ghori to defeat Prithviraj Chauhan.

And hence we address the traitors of India as Bharat ke Jaichand.

This is what was taught to us by historians, or should I say distorians ? That Prithviraj Chauhan's defeat was solely because of Jaichand's treachery.

It was not actually.

Chand Bardai's Prithviraj raso, is officially considered the best book to know the history of Prithviraj Chauhan, because it was written by his court poet Chand Bardai.

In Prithviraj Raso, there is no narrative of Maharaj Jaichand actually inviting Ghori. In fact in this book, which was made to eulogize Prithviraj Chauhan, the king of Kannauj is still praised very much.

Let me tell you the real history of Maharaj Jaichand.

Maharaj Jaichand was the King or should I say emperor of the Kannauj samrajya which was one of the biggest and the richest empire of its time.

Just like Yudhishthir, Maharaj Jaichand had also conducted Rajsui yagya in which Prithviraj Chauhan denied to accept Jaichand's sovereignity and hence the rivalry between two started.

Some muslim historians of that time actually said that the king of Varanasi was the greatest king of India and possessed largest territory in India.

Now Kannauj was so rich, Maharaj Jaichand was so powerful, then you only think, why would he need to invite a third rate looter like Ghori to attack Prithviraj Chauhan, when Maharaj Jaichand was himself capable of waging war again ???

This narrative was not there in the contemporary history of that time. This was added much later by Abul Fazal the court historian of Akbar to justify Ghori's invasion and make a narrative that it was the fault of Indians or Hindus only and we had traitors.

Prithviraj Vijay, another important text written by Jayanaka, a Kashmiri poet-historian in the court of Prithviraj, also doesn't mention Maharaj Jaichand inviting Ghori. No contemporary text of that time mentions this.

The truth is that Maharaj Jaichand died fighting against Ghori to save the precious cities of Ayodhya and Varanasi, which at that time was in Kannauj samrajya.

Do you know that the real Ram Mandir was actually made by Maharaj Jaichand ? This temple was later made into Babri Masjid.

It is time we correct the history. Maharaj Jaichand was indeed the rival of Prithviraj Chauhan but he was not a traitor.

How can we blame the invasion of Ghori to Maharaj Jaichand when it's credit was happily and proudly taken by Sheikh Moinuddin Chisti, the revered Sufi saint in history textbooks.

The Agonising Irony !

It is sad when brave kings like Maharaj Jaichand are demonized in their own motherland for whom they died protecting, while real culprits and criminals like Sheikh Moinuddin Chisti are glorified with millions going to his Ajmer darga.

But now you know the real history.
