Hello and welcome ! Today we will be discussing as to why the Harappan Language and script remains undeciphered till date.

It's not about the complexity of the Language, it's the failure of our archeologists. You know why ?

Because most of them believe in the Aryan invasion theory. 😑😑😑

Which makes most the Indians believe that the Vedas, Purans, epics etc were never our own, Sanskrit isn't our language and nonsense like that.

So if we go according to the time line of this theory, Harappan civilization happens before the so called invasions of Aryans, who ever they were.

But Rig Veda, the so called Aryan text, mentions things like yagya, swastik, Pashupati etc all of these were found in Harappan civilization.

There are yagya kund at Kalibangan, swastik symbols on seals, there is even a seal depicting Pashupati Mahadev.

This all suggests that there were no Aryans from Central Asia or whatever place those Brits thought. This shows that India has always been a single civilization, a Vedic civilization.

Now coming to the point that why is Harappan script undeciphered.

Due to some archeologists believe in Aryan invasion theory, they have speculated that Harappan Language is related to Dravidian languages like that of Tamil. But there is absolutely no proofs regarding this statement.

The thing is, Tamil itself has many words that were borrowed from Sanskrit like Neer (water) Mayur (peacock) Min (fish). Now I don't want to engage in a debate whether which language is older or who borrowed from whom but similarities are there.

Not only words but vowels are similar and the order alphabets have been placed is also similar.

This suggests that either Tamil is derived from Sanskrit or both Tamil and Sanskrit have a common root

This suggests that either Tamil is derived from Sanskrit or both Tamil and Sanskrit have a common root.

Now we do know for a fact that Rig Ved is much older than the date given by Romila Thappar, 1500 BCE. And as I said Rig Veda mentions several things that are found in Indus valley civilization.

Rig Veda also mentions a rural way of life, and Harappan civilization was an extensive urban settlement at least in its mature phase.

This suggests that Rig Veda came before Indus valley civilization. Because if any place develops, it's sequence is from rural to urban.

And we know that Rig Veda was written in Sanskrit, probably Sanskrit in its truest form. And we know Indus valley civilization was a Vedic civilization.

Here's where some archeologists make mistake, to decipher a script you compare it to it's contemporary languages, or a language that came before and after  it.

These archeologists have never compared Harappan script to Sanskrit.

There is a very big possibility that Harappans spoke Sanskrit or a post Vedic Sanskrit. And as per the script, some archeologists who are in there right mind have said that the Harappan script seems to be an early form of Brahmi and Kharoshti script, which were used to write Sanskrit in ancient times.

Iravatham Mahadevan, a south Indian scholar in his book 'The Indus script : Texts, Concordance and Tables (1977)' has suggested that Harappan script is a glyph or pictorial script like Hieroglyphs for Egyptian but for Sanskrit

Iravatham Mahadevan, a south Indian scholar in his book 'The Indus script : Texts, Concordance and Tables (1977)' has suggested that Harappan script is a glyph or pictorial script like Hieroglyphs for Egyptian but for Sanskrit.

Basically he is saying that Harappan script is Hieroglyphs of Sanskrit language, which is also a possibility because these two civilization were contemporaries.

So to really decipher Harappan script we need to bring many scholars and archeologists like this because one alone cannot do much as there are 300-400 letters, we need a thinktank and we need funding for these things.

But for some reason, the government of India has never been interested in knowing more about our civilization and how old it actually is. 😑
