Gantantra diwas ki badhaiya !
Today is the republic day of India, the day when our constitution came into effect. The best thing about today is the parade for which everyone gets up early in the morning and turns on DD National to watch every year.
Thus in honour of today's date I am going to tell you more about Indian military and several regiments.
1) THE BLACK CATS
National Security Guards (NSG) better known as 'The Black cats' are the elite counter-terrorism unit under Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)It was formed on 16 October 1984 and it's motto is सर्वत्र सर्वोत्तम सुरक्षा (Omnipresent omnipotent security)
The NSG is a 'Federal Contingency Deployment Force' to tackle all facets of terrorism in the country. As a specialised counter-terrorism force, it is intended to be used "only in exceptional situations" and is not meant to take over the "functions of the State Police Forces or other Para Military Forces".
Over the years its role has been expanded to provide personal security to influential politicians regardless of the real threat that they face.
However, in January 2020, the NSG was withdrawn from this task of VIP security to ensure its focus on its original roles as an elite counter-terrorism and anti-hijacking force.
2) THE GORKHA REGIMENT
