CH 11 - Too arrogant

In a royal chamber.

“Those bastards! They challenged me and threw shits on me? Insolent and preposterous! This King comes here to help them, yet they are being ungrateful!” The Crown Prince enraged.

He throws everything on the table, making the cups shattered, all tumbling around the room. His breaths are erratic and his eyes red. His maids that followed him on the trip were all shivering with fear.

“Now, Father Emperor looked down on me! And that bastard Fourth Prince, he really snatched my opportunity just like that. This King is sure, he is just waiting for a chance to strike me!” The Crown Prince rants going on and on.

“Your Highness, there’s plenty of chances for you to take on later, please quell your anger! This servant is definitely sure, His Majesty will not dismiss you just like that. Your Highness is a Crown Prince and you are the son of the Empress. No one can compare to Your Highness!” The Crown Prince’s right man, Hyun said.

“That’s right! I am the Crown Prince! My status is higher than those measly princes. Why should I be afraid of them? However, we can’t relax yet. My beloved brothers cannot be trusted by how they behave. They look uninterested in the throne but I am sure they are also eyeing on that seat eagerly. I don’t believe that they will give in to me easily.” Jeon Jaewon laughs cynically.

“This servant thinks His Highness the Third Prince can be our ally. He never indulges in politics and always does things on his own. Don’t you think so, Your Highness?” Hyun said.

“Jeon Jeongguk? To be our ally? HA HA HA! Don’t be delusional! He is a freak! I don’t want to ally with him, and I’m sure he didn’t want to at all. I know him!” The Crown Prince scoffed.

“That’s right! The Third Prince will definitely reject being an ally with you!” A graceful voice of a woman, booming through the room.

“Mother Empress!” The Crown Prince greets his mother, bowing slightly to her.

“Rise! Mother comes here to remind you to brace yourself! You have no time to play around and need to start focusing on state matters seriously. Your father already looked down on you and this mother is afraid that you are going to be discarded sooner or later!” The Empress said, take a seat on the chair.

“Then, does mother Empress have any idea?” His Highness Crown Prince asked.

“Hmm, how old are you that you still need this mother’s guidance?” The Empress scolded him before she sighed.

“Apologies for this stupid son!” The Crown Prince lowered his head.

“You need to charm the people and win their heart! Also, you must keep down your hot tempers. Be more affectionate and learn how to be kind to others.” The Empress said.

“Those people are stupid, Mother! They didn’t appreciate my efforts at all! Why should I give face to them?” The Crown Prince whines.

“Useless! Stop acting like you are the greatest when you don't exert any effort to understand the people’s sufferings.” The Empress is getting angry with her son’s attitude.

“Mother, if I’m going to be the Emperor, they should bow down to me, since I’m the ruler of this kingdom! They are the ones who should kiss my feet, I’m the one who can give them a comfortable life!” The Crown Prince said.

“Audacious! You are so arrogant, Crown Prince! If you keep being like this, you shouldn’t be an Emperor at all! As an Emperor, your responsibilities are big and heavy! You have to think about people’s feelings and ease their sufferings, not abuse them or look down on them. We should work together with the people so we can have a peaceful and harmonious kingdom.” The Empress reprimanded her son.

The Crown Prince huffed. He didn’t like one bit about what her mother told him. He didn’t agree with her words. He still thinks that an Emperor is the superior and no one can challenge him. People should just listen to the Emperor’s rules and stay like that without any complaints.

“This mother guess, I've spoiled you so much that you became so unruly like this! This mother is at fault for letting you grow up without any restraint that you didn’t have any empathy for! Fix your attitude if you want to be the future Emperor! If not, you can only dream and watch one of your own brothers ascend the throne in front of your eyes.” The Empress was disappointed with the Crown Prince so she left the chamber with a heavy heart.

“Damn it! Why does everyone like to force me to do something I don’t want?” The Crown Prince roared before he shooed everyone away as he wanted to be alone.

All of his servants ran away hurriedly and didn't want to provoke His Highness’s madness again.

When he is alone, he takes out a box under his bed carefully. He then took out a scroll there and opened it. He stares at the portrait with longing eyes and a heart full of affection. He caresses the portrait slowly, tracing the person’s face with his tips of fingers.

“How I wish you’re mine, love! I will definitely make you mine! Wait for me, my love!” The Crown Prince hugs the scroll before rolling in his bed, sleeping with it till the morning.
