THIRD PERSON.
A COUPLE DAYS HAD GONE BY SINCE KATE RETURNED from New York, the only people who know about losing her job being her three closest friends, who seemed incapable of understanding why she was so hurt to lose it.
They were trying their best to comfort her, and to an extent it was working. Sophia and Hazel struggled to see it as something worthwhile, and as they were unaware of Kate's extremely hidden feelings for Corbyn, they couldn't understand why she was upset.
Evie was more aware of the situation, and was much more sympathetic with the girl, having already helped her search for another job to keep her company in the meantime while she figured out what she was going to do.
Yet, Kate seemed unaware of the real reason why she was fired. In the short time she was with Randy before she left the hotel for the airport, he listed many things she had regrettably done during her time in the role. The only valid reason being Corbyn finding another girl more suitable for the job, someone Randy said Corbyn liked much more.
And so on that Thursday evening, Kate had found herself wrapped in a blanket on the couch, watching a film while Evie was walking around their apartment getting ready to go out.
"Are you sure you don't want to come?" Evie asked, putting on her shoes as she looked over to Kate, who shook her head in response, "what are you having for dinner?"
"I'll find something." Kate shrugged.
"You could order something in." She suggested, grabbing her jacket as Kate shook her head, "why not?"
"I gave you the rest of my money," Kate looked over at her while Evie stood there confused, "for the rent."
"If I knew that was all you had I wouldn't have accepted it."
"That's why I didn't tell you."
"Now I feel bad." Evie frowned, "just come out with me for the night and leave your phone here so Isaac doesn't find you somehow."
"But you're not leaving and I don't have time to get ready." Kate shook her head before Evie sighed and sat herself down on a stool by the kitchen counter.
"I'll wait." Evie replied, "you have time."
"Alright." She rolled her eyes, turning the TV off before walking to her room and quickly getting ready for the evening.
After Evie waited around twenty minutes for the girl to get herself ready, Kate eventually walked back through to the main area of their apartment, an effort barely made with her appearance as she threw on her shoes, receiving a small smile from Evie.
And as they left their apartment, the pair made their way to Evie's car parked outside of the complex, walking closely by each other and in silence until they got into her car.
"I took Isaac's suggestion," Kate mentioned, putting on her seatbelt as Evie froze before turning her head to look at her.
"A stripper..?"
"No! Oh my god, no." Kate shook her head, "The whole waitressing thing."
"Oh my god." Evie laughed, "sorry I was about to lecture you on why you shouldn't do that, did you get a job?"
"Uh, yeah." She nodded, "I start like next week but yeah.. I didn't want you to pay for everything again."
"Do you want some of that money back? I don't want to talk all of it, I can pay for majority I-"
"No please take it." Kate frowned and looked at her, "I'll feel bad if you don't and it's my fault for not being able to save."
"Alright you didn't know you were going to be fired." Evie reminded the girl, "you weren't aware of that so it doesn't matter if you didn't save any."
"Yeah well," she shrugged and folded her arms, "he acted like everything was fine."
"Are you sure he was the one who decided he wanted a different fake girlfriend?" Evie asked, "because he invited you to New York so I just think it's a little weird.."
"That's what Randy said." Kate mumbled, "Corbyn found someone he liked better so whatever, it happens."
"I don't know, I don't believe it." She shrugged, "he seemed like he really liked you."
"Evie i'm not the type of person someone falls in love with," Kate looked at her as Evie's small smile faded.
"You need to give someone other than Isaac a chance." Evie told the girl, "There's 7 billion people in the world, one of them is the type of person to fall in love with you."
"And besides you're only 20." She continued, pulling into a McDonald's parking lot as Kate sighed, "hardly anyone at 20 has their forever person, you have time."
"But Isaac-"
"Isaac is not the one." Evie shook her head and laughed as she pulled into the drive thru, "I hate to break it you but he's not your forever, anyway what do you want for dinner?"
"You're not getting me anything."
"If you don't tell me i'll just buy you a happy meal." Evie raised her eyebrows as Kate rolled her eyes but smiled slightly, "a happy meal would cheer you up."
"I'll just have a mcnugget meal," she shrugged, "and for you to stop being so wise with your words."
"I'm just trying to make you feel better about the whole situation right now." Evie said, "you know you're tired of Isaac's bullshit and yet you still choose to be with him."
"Because sometimes I deserve what he says or does." Kate argued.
"No you don't." Evie replied, "don't let him convince you that he is all you have because he's not, and he never will be, okay?"
"Okay." Kate shrugged and shook her head, letting out a sigh while Evie rolled down her window to order the two of them food.
