You were around eleven when you had went against your fathers wishes and snuck out to the memory tree. Your father made it a strict rule that you never wondered off too far—and to stay away from the memory tree because it was dangerous.

But you were envious of the other kids who played by the tree. Envious of the kids who had fun with their families there. Since your dad was often away to take care of things at the palace, your brother would often run the Apple shop while you played with the villages kids. It was one of those days where your father was away and your older brother slept away soundlessly at your home. LightLoft's memory tree was located up a hill near the mountain. Despite it being late in the night you managed to make your way to the tree safely. It felt wonderful to be able to see the scenery up close. The large dark oak tree that seemed to glow light blue thanks to the blue gems in the ground. From your village home you could faintly see the tree on your roof, but you never knew how breath taking it was in person. Past the tree was a cliff—and below the cliff was a large body of water. The water reflected the moon's reflection and added a delicate touch to the scenery.

You giggled and twirled on the soft grass by the tree. The rumors were true! The grass is not only darker, but softer as well! You sat down on the grass with a smile as you felt memorized by the beauty. But that's when you noticed a little boy by the edge of the cliff. How could you not have noticed him beforehand? Your heart beak began to quicken in fear. Your father told you not to interact with strangers, and what boy would be out this late?

Yet, your mind became at ease once you began to think logically. Maybe he wanted to see the pretty view as well? Feeling rude for being scared by the young boy, you decided to stand up and approach him. Your thin white dress began to dance in the breeze of the wind, your hands by your chest. "Hello?" You called out, the boy seemed to get startled before turning around and facing you. The light blue hue was painted on the boy's pale features, his face cold and stern. "Are you looking at the pretty view as well?" You questioned and he let out a sigh as if annoyed with you already. "I'm not." He began, now fully facing you. "Why are you here? Leave." He started and you huffed in annoyance. "You can't tell me to leave! Besides, look at how pretty the tree is!" You smile and walked over to it, "You're standing too close to the edge! It's dangerous! If you apologize for telling me to leave, then we can play together!" You smiled brightly and he huffed. "I'm not apologizing!"

"Well...can you at least get away from the edge? It does look rather dangerous." You frowned with a hand on the tree and a hand on your chest. The boy stared in shock as he seemed bewitched. The blue hue lit up your features and the wind passed by, covering up the silence in between you two. "Come on!" You spoke and stepped forward, grabbing his hand and pulling him towards you. "I'm (Y/n)!" you start and the boy looked behind him towards the cliff. "I'm...Megumi." He mumbled out before facing you once more. "That's a pretty name!" You smiled and he shook his head, "but it's a name for a girl. My dad gave me the name without even caring about my gender." He frowned as if it was something that truly bothered him. Seeing the boy look so sad made you touch his face gently, "doesn't it mean 'blessing'? I think your name suits you very well! Besides, you're my first friend at the memory tree! If it weren't for you, I'd be lonely!" The boy stared at you with wide eyes as a single tear drop escaped his eyes. "I-Eh?! Are you crying? I'm sorry!" You began but he cut you off.

"I'm not crying, you idiot!"

"Liar! Here! Let's play! Maybe that'll cheer your mood!"

The night continued, you and Megumi keeping each other company. While it was mostly you doing all the laughing and playing, Megumi found himself staring at you in awe. "Hey..." He started, catching your attention. "Yeah?" You questioned and faced him with a bunch of flowers in your hand. "I...need to get stronger. I didn't want to at first. I wanted to give up...but... after I'm stronger, will you wait for me? Will you still be here if I return?" He questioned with a look of desperation in his eyes. He was asking out of fear—out of worriment for his future. You gave a soft smile and nodded, "that's a stupid question! I'm always here! Besides I can't afford to move out the village of LightLoft anyways." You let out a small chuckle remembering how your brother was worried about how he'd afford the monthly due of coins for your home.
