I stop for coffee. I walk into the nearest coffee shop and get the biggest cup I can. I didn't get the extra few minutes of sleep this morning, so this coffee is heaven.
I'm still walking along, paying no attention to time. Now I had my coffee, I was in a much better mood.
My town is small. I can practically walk anywhere I want here. The heat of summer is still beating down on me. I'm glad I wore a t-shirt and not a hoodie like last year. Ugh, out was awful.
I look down at my wristwatch. 7:57. I'm gonna be late. I go from a walk to a run, hoping I'm not late on my first day. I spill my coffee while running, burning my hand. And THAT caused me to drop my coffee in pain. Aww.
I run into the double doors of my school's front entrance when the bell rings for tardy students. 8:04. Well, no need to be in a rush now.
I walk to my locker and grab my books, checking my schedule. First period, grammar with Mrs. Lenny. I heard she doesn't tolerate late students. Oops.
I walk into her classroom, anxious. She looks at me, obviously interrupted by my late arrival.
"Well, first day and you're already late. Just have a seat Mr..." she trails off, forgetting my name
"Kane." I say, waking to the first empty desk I see and plopping all my stuff down. I miss my coffee. I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around and see my friend Daniel.
"Dude," he says. "We're sophomores now. We're not annoying freshman anymore! I already feel more respect." he quickly says.
He's right. Today is our first day being sophomores. I completely forgot after the whole being late thing.
Maybe today will be good after all.
