You let out a sigh as you weaved through the many students in the halls. Everyone was desperate to leave school and get home, relieved that the day was finally over. You, on the other hand, were walking farther inward, trying to get to the theater on time.

Your math teacher had asked you to stay after class, and despite your begging to have this talk another time, he insisted on having it right then and there. Something about your answers to one of the worksheets, blah blah blah, you didn't care. All you cared about was getting to play rehearsal, and right now you would barely make it by the skin of your teeth.

In your haste to reach the building on time, you weren't exactly paying the most attention to your surroundings. You ran face-first into somebody in the halls, significantly propelling you backward and causing you to fall on your ass. You blinked a few times before looking up.

"Woah, that was a wicked smackdown. Are you alright?"

You recognized him. Stanley Barber. It would be a complete lie on your end if you said you hadn't dreamed of working up the courage to talk to him one day. It wasn't like he seemed unapproachable, it was just that he already had his group of friends, and you were so incredibly awkward. And you surely weren't helping your case by staring at him blankly while not saying anything.

"Did you hit your head or something?" He asked. You shook your head as his words brought you back to reality. You began to stand up before dusting yourself off.

"Uh no, no. I'm fine. Sorry about that, just in a rush. Trying to get to- shit! Play rehearsal!" You pushed past him and began running once again. Stanley turned and watched you round the corner, gone just as fast as he'd seen you come. What a strange person.

You entered the cafeteria, your nose buried in your script as you walked to an empty table. Your eyes stayed fixed on the words as you pulled your lunch bag out of your backpack. You didn't need to look at what you were doing, practically running on autopilot.

"Hey, smackdown. You want some lunch with that assignment?"

"What?" You asked as you looked up, Standing before you were Stanley and two of his friends, one who you vaguely recognized.

"Who works during lunch?" He asked with a laugh and began to sit down.

"Oh uh- It's not an assignment. It's the script for the musical I'm in."

"Musical? We put on musicals here? I didn't even know that..." The one with red hair said. Stanley laughed.

"Wow, Sydney, way to disrespect their passion."

"Who do you play?" The other girl asked.

"Oh um... Lurch from the Addams Family."

"You guys are performing the Addams family? I love that movie. I wonder why I didn't know."
