EUREKA'S POV

7:37 AM in the morning.

The airplane smoothly took its departure from the airport. And now, the airplane is currently flying across the morning sky.

I witnessed how the sunlight slipped through the clouds as the dawn breaks through. Sobrang ganda. Parang nagsu-swimming ang eroplano sa dagat ng mga ulap.

The passengers inside the airplane were fastened to their respective seats. May mga cabin crew na naglalakad sa mid-aisle, nagtutulak sila ng food cart para mag-deliver ng mga pagkain.

Kaming tatlo nina Ele at Jonathan, by the way, ay nakaupo sa iisang row ng seats. Ako ang nasa gitna, si Ele ang malapit sa bintana, si Jonathan naman ang nasa kabila ko.

We're quiet, awkwardly quiet. Kanina pa walang imik si Ele at nakatanaw sa window, habang naka-earphones si Jonathan at kumakain ng chichirya.

Ako naman, para hindi ma-bored, nagba-browse ako ng travel magazine.

I really hate this awkward silence between the three of us. Gusto kong magsalita pero 'di ko alam ang sasabihin ko.

Talking might worsen the awkwardness.

"Want some?" biglang nagsalita si Jonathan, offering his Piattos to me.

Ngumiti naman ako at umiling. "No, thanks."

"Okay..." He, then nods his head.

There was another awkward silence. Mabuti na lang, nagsalita ulit si Jonathan.

"So, um... What do you expect to see in New York? Is this your first time?"

I'm glad that he opened a conversation. This is better than the awkward silence. So I initially replied.

"Yup, first time ko 'to," I tried to sound enthusiastic. "What do I expect? Um... Buildings, civilized people. Oh! At gusto kong mapasyalan 'yung Statue Of Liberty. Explore the whole city."

Napangiti si Jonathan sa sinabi ko. His cute dimple exposed. "Really? Well, I can be your tour guide... if you insist."

"My tour guide?" Natawa ako do'n. "For free?"

"Of course! No wages. All free. For you!" At kumindat pa siya.

Woah! Now his goofy side is showing. Hindi naman siya mahirap kaibiganin.

"Sure! Sabi mo iyan, ah? No wages?"

"No wages at all! All free tour around New York City for Miss Eureka." And Jonathan slightly bowed his head like a servant to a queen.

Sabay kaming tumawa. The awkward atmosphere was gone. Thanks to Jonathan.

"We're not here to do such field trip."
