After the release of the long-awaited first episode of JYP's new survival show Sixteen, the K-pop Industry has gone to war with itself over one specific competitor: Y/N L/N.

Y/N L/N is a fourteen-year-old Caribbean-Korean trainee from the island of Trinidad. As many Netizens know, the K-pop industry is well known for a lack of ethnic diversity, and there is a clear division as to whether Y/N should be allowed to continue on the show.

Many fans are saying she should be kept on the show for her talent – Y/N had previously been a nameless trainee going by 'JYP's Secret Weapon' or the coveted 'Wonder Trainee' because of her clear abilities as an all-rounder. Other fans are saying that her dark skin is ugly and ruins her visual, others say that her hair is the problem, and her talent can't make up for it. Netizens are calling for her to be removed from the show because, if she were to get into the final line-up, the racial backlash could stunt the group's rise to fame.

JYP is remaining silent on the matter, but with racial backlash this intense, I doubt the silence will last long.
