Eurielle shivered as the brisk autumn wind cut through the fabric of her long-sleeved shirt. Barely two steps from the tent, she turned back, intent on snagging Theo's sturdy camping jacket that she had given him only a few months ago- though it felt eons.
The changing weather served as a stark reminder that summer had faded, leaving behind the promise of a harsh winter ahead. With dawn approaching, Theo was still fast asleep as she rifled through his belongings, retrieving the thick green jacket.
Slipping her icy fingers into the wool-lined pockets, Eurielle gazed up at the gradually brightening blue sky. Surrounded by rolling hills adorned with towering spruce trees, she felt insignificant in comparison. But at the moment, she supposed that's what she needed, to feel small and somewhat insignificant.
She continued her walk to her parent's tent. She was nervous but actually a little excited. This wasn't the first life or death situation she had been in - it was the first one that was voluntary- but that just made things better. It was going to be a simple scouting mission, that was all.
Eurielle tried to knock, but you couldn't exactly do that on a tent, could you? She settled with clearing her throat ridiculously loud before heading on it.
Her mother and father stood in the small kitchen compartment of the enlarged tent. Sirius's eyebrow had shot up upon her arrival, " You think we're shagging on the fold-out table or something?" he said with the corner of his mouth twitching.
Eurielle shivered as the brisk autumn wind cut through the fabric of her long-sleeved shirt. Barely two steps from the tent, she pivoted, intent on snagging Theo's sturdy camping jacket, a recent gift from her.
The changing weather served as a stark reminder that summer had faded, leaving behind the promise of a harsh winter ahead. With dawn approaching, Theo remained lost in slumber as she rifled through his belongings, retrieving the thick green jacket.
Slipping her icy fingers into the cozy pockets, Eurielle gazed up at the gradually brightening blue sky. Surrounded by rolling hills adorned with towering spruce trees, she felt insignificant in comparison. Yet, in this moment, perhaps that feeling of smallness was exactly what she sought.
Making her way towards her parents' tent, a mix of nerves and anticipation coursed through her. While not her first encounter with life-threatening situations, this one was different—it was voluntary. Just a routine scouting mission, or so she hoped.
Attempting a knock on the tent flaps, Eurielle quickly realized that you couldn't exactly do that. So she settled on clearing her throat ridiculously loud before entering.
Inside, her parents, Evelyn and Sirius, sat in the compact kitchen space within the expanded tent. Sirius raised an eyebrow at her arrival, his lips twitching with amusement. "Think we're having a tryst on the fold-out table?" he teased.
"Dear father, does one know thyself?" she retorted playfully, shedding her coat and draping it over a nearby chair.
Evelyn threw Sirius a mocking look to which he only poked out his lips as if in deep thought before responding, "A valid, albeit smartass question," he decided, raising his cup of coffee to his daughter, " You sure you're not Remus's kid?"
Evelyn chuckled before pulling her daughter to her chest and placing a kiss on her forehead, " She's too dramatic to be Remus's daughter, my love,"
Sirius feigned offense, pretending to nurse a wounded ego." You two are really pushing it today," he scoffed.

Seated around the simple particleboard table, the trio ate in silence until Sirius broke it. "This is a straightforward scouting mission, Eurielle," he explained, his tone matter-of-fact. "We're going to a designated spot to observe and wait for any potential contact. If he does, we listen and see if he has anything useful to say- if he doesn't, congratulations, you've wasted six hours of your life. Make sense?"
