It was as if all the air had left his lungs when she told him. Harry recalled Sirius's harsh words for his brother but he had died trying to save them all. Regulus Black was a hero.
Evelyn brushed the locket with her fingers, " He came to our apartment while Sirius was away and told me that. . . that he was in love with me, " she whispered.
Harry was still new to the whole dating scene. He had turned down offers to go on dates and what not, but he couldn't imagine something like that happening to him. He couldn't help the rush of pity that flooded his chest as he saw a lone tear run down his godmother's cheek.
Still, she smiled nonetheless, " I wish I could tell him how proud I am," she said tearfully, finally meeting his eyes, " Even if he did try and erase my memory, he wasn't trying to hurt me or anyone, he was just someone who got in over his head,"
" Before he left I tried to let me come with me, sort of like Dumbledore brought you along,"
They quit walking and stared at the quiet grounds, " I know Sirius must not talk much about your parents, it's hard for him, especially after Azkaban and never being able to heal properly,"
Harry shrugged, seemingly trying to convince himself as much as her that it didn't bother him. Evelyn laughed, " Well I can tell you anything, like how you act far more like Lily than James- well at least in my opinion," she chuckled, " Your father was a damn idiot,"
The teen couldn't help the grin that stretched across his face, " People tell me I act like him a lot, and when I saw Snape's memory of him during you lots fifth year. . . It took me a while to... to enjoy being compared to him again, I did appreciate what you said about that though, so if you don't mind telling me how he was afterwards,"
Evelyn looked up at the stars and grinned, " He was everything a man should be, and he would have been so proud of you. But to answer your question he was goofy and did the most idiotic things from dancing on the Gryffindor table, sneaking in a ginormous cake for Remus's birthday, and flipping over a police car to get away from deatheaters,"
" Your mother thought he was handsome and hilarious like everyone else, but she refused to let herself like someone so arrogant- trust me his head was so fat it was a shock everytime his broom lifted off the ground," she sighed happily, " He grew out of that of course- well a little, he was still arrogant but I suppose a lot of Gryffindors are to a point," she said with a wink.
" Once he deflated his head and after we all went to the muggle carnival, your mother included, she let herself fall and good God she fell hard. You would have thought she was a different person, and when she was pregnant with you James waited on her hand and foot. I thought she was going to kill him,"
Harry's face hurted he was smiling so much. He was surprised that he was allowing himself to be this happy with Dumbldore dead and Snape on the run, but he supposed it was just as Eurielle had said, her mother had a certain way with people, making them open up and be vulnerable.
" Thank you," he said suddenly, " I needed this,"
Evelyn rested a hand on his shoulder, " I'm sorry this is happening to you, you didn't do anything to deserve this,"
He nodded, believing her, " I know, but what can you do?"
She laughed lightly, " After all this Harry, I'm making you and Eurielle move in with Sirius and I for a year, I hope you know that," she said half joking- half being totally serious.
Harry smiled, " I think I'd like that. . . ,"
The two stood in comfortable silence until Evelyn pulled him into a tight embrace, " Sorry," she mumbled, " I just need to,"
