"Try the horned wasp eggs. Delicious!" Chen's voice was sickly sweet, his grin stretched unnervingly wide as he offered the slimy, grotesque-looking delicacy.

I recoiled slightly, grimacing as I touched one of the eggs, the texture slimy and foreign. "Uh, I think I'll pass," I said, pushing the plate away, trying not to gag.

Chen only laughed, the sound oozing with an unsettling sense of amusement. "Oh, lighten up, Master of Wind. This isn't a trick. This is a feast to celebrate the eight of you making it to the second round!" He raised his glass in a mock toast before the Kabuki clowns let out an exaggerated, forced laugh.

"And I must congratulate the Master of Shadow's defeat over Master of Poison. She was a bit hard to swallow, am I right?" The Kabuki clowns erupted into a fit of manic laughter. "Laugh harder! Hahahaha!" Chen's demand echoed in the air, forcing the Kabuki to laugh even more, a hideous, mechanical sound.

I glanced over at Lloyd, who was still looking visibly uneasy, his eyes darting around as if waiting for the another trap to drop. "You can relax, Lloyd. Even if there was a fight, now that we told the others about Chen's dirty plot to steal our powers, we're safe in our secret alliance," Kai assured, giving a thumbs up. But his grin didn't quite reach his eyes, the tension in the room making him uneasy.

Griffen leaned in close to me, whispering under his breath, "I tried to enlist Shadow, but that dude's throwing some serious shade. Not even gonna try that again."

I shot him a half-smile, but there was a weight in my stomach. "Well, if we're going to stop Chen, we'll need everyone on board. Each fighter that loses gives him strength. Soon, he'll be too powerful for even all of us combined to overcome," my father added, his voice grim and full of the usual gravity that came with his words.

Before I could respond, Chen's voice boomed again, and I turned just in time to see him nearly bouncing in excitement. "Ooh, fortune cookies! Bring them to me!" he practically sang, rubbing his hands together as though he couldn't wait to get his grubby hands on the only remotely normal food in this twisted place.

I watched as Clouse whispered something into Chen's ear, which caused him to pause, looking slightly irritated. With a quick, sharp motion, he placed the fortune cookie back down and sent it around the table, clearly not in the mood for anything normal.

It wasn't long before Chen's voice cut through the air again, his tone dripping with self-satisfaction. "It has come to my attention that there are rumors floating about that I am stealing everyone's power. Well..." He paused dramatically, looking around the room as though waiting for some kind of gasp. "I am," he admitted, and the room collectively gasped in shock.

I couldn't believe it—he wasn't even trying to hide it anymore.

"But it's all for this staff!" He clapped his hands together with an exaggerated flourish, and the Kabuki clowns, like mindless puppets, waved their hand fans in sync, creating an eerie, synchronized display. "No, no. Not you, staff." He waved his hand dismissively, a smug look crossing his face as the clowns' laughter tapered off. "I mean my real staff."

The air grew heavy with tension, and my stomach twisted. Every breath seemed to draw in the weight of what was coming.

A sharp gasp filled the room as a large figure was brought forward, and I nearly choked on my own breath when I saw it—The Staff of Elements, shimmering with raw, dangerous energy, held aloft by two of Chen's henchmen.
