The clang of pickaxes against stone echoed through the dimly lit dungeons. The Geckles and Munce toiled under the watchful eyes of the Re-Awakened, their skeletal captors standing rigid, weapons at the ready. Shadows danced eerily along the cold cavern walls, cast by flickering torches mounted in iron brackets.

From inside our cage, we watched helplessly.

So, yeah. Shortly after crossing that lava, we were captured—again.

I leaned against the metal bars with a sigh. I don't think I've been in this many cages since my prime...

Wait. No way.

I blinked, my brain catching up to my own thought. I'm still in my prime, right?

A loud groan snapped me from my spiraling thoughts.

"Ugh!"

Nya rattled the bars of our cell, trying and failing to pry them open. She gritted her teeth and gave the door one last shove before slumping back in frustration.

Kai exhaled, crossing his arms. "Save your strength, Sis. It's Vengestone."

Nya shot him an annoyed glare before sinking onto the cold ground, pulling her knees up. "The Munce had faith in me, and now look at them—right back where they were. In chains." She shook her head, disgusted with herself. "I can't believe we were gullible enough to trust the Skull Sorcerer."

Kai huffed out a bitter chuckle. "Yep. I'm probably going down as the worst Chancellor in Geckle history."

Zane's calm voice cut through the frustration. "I do not see that we had any choice."

Jay nodded, glancing at the Munce and Geckles beyond the bars. "Zane's right. If we hadn't surrendered, he would have destroyed all of them."

Lloyd, who had been staring at the mining prisoners with a clenched jaw, finally spoke. His voice was quiet, but firm. "At least they're still alive." His green eyes flickered with determination. "There's still hope."

I let out a small, tired breath and leaned my head back against the bars. "Exactly... Cole is still out there."

I meant it as reassurance, but my voice wavered slightly at the end. My mind drifted, worry creeping in like an unwelcome whisper.

Where was he?

Was he safe?

Was he even still—

No. I shut that thought down immediately.

Cole was strong. Tougher than all of us combined. He wouldn't go down that easily.

He had to be okay.

Still, as I looked around at my caged team, at the exhausted prisoners, at the Re-Awakened standing guard with their lifeless, burning eyes—

The air in the dungeon turned thick with dread as a sinister laugh echoed through the cavern.

"Hahaha! That's the spirit," the Skull Sorcerer sneered as he descended, his tattered cloak billowing behind him. The glow of his cursed mask cast eerie shadows along the stone walls. His skeletal staff clacked against the ground, sending an unsettling pulse through the air. "But unfortunately for you, there is no hope. I have decided... a demonstration is needed—to show my true power over this mountain."
