—~~••~~—The Samurai X Cave was eerily quiet when Cole and I arrived. The sound of our footsteps echoed faintly against the metallic walls as we descended into the hidden chamber. The air was tense, heavy with the anticipation of bad news. Neuro stood waiting for us, his expression tight with worry.
"Thank goodness you got my message," Neuro said as he stepped forward to greet us.
"Yeah, well, it wasn't exactly subtle," I replied, crossing my arms. "It felt like someone was digging around in my head. Only do that if it's an emergency, okay?"
Neuro nodded quickly. "It is an emergency."
I didn't need to ask more. The tension in the room was enough to tell me things were worse than I thought. Neuro gestured toward the others gathered further inside the cave—Lloyd, my father, and the rest of the team.
Lloyd was pacing, his face drawn with worry, while my father stood stoic as always, but the tightness in his jaw betrayed his emotions.
"What's going on?" I asked, my voice firm as I approached them.
"Uncle knows about the letter," Lloyd said, his voice low and measured.
Earlier in the week, Lloyd had let it slip that our father had faked writing a love letter to Misako—a deception he was still trying to make sense of. But now wasn't the time to dredge up old secrets.
"The message was delivered," my father said with a heavy sigh, as if the words themselves carried a weight he didn't want to bear.
Before I could press further, Griffen's voice cut through the air, his tone impatient. "Why did you call us here? We should be out there fighting snakes!"
"Because anyone can fight," Sensei Wu said, stepping forward. His calm yet commanding voice silenced the room. "But only one side can declare victory. And right now, we are far from victorious."
Nya moved to the console, pulling up a map of Ninjago on the large screen. The map was stained with patches of crimson red, each one representing a conquered village. "In the time it took you to get here, Chen has taken over the entire Eastern seaboard and is moving inland. With each village destroyed, his forces grow stronger."
"That's a lot of red," Karlof muttered, his thick arms crossed as he glared at the screen. "Karlof not like red."
"How are we supposed to stop them?" Gravis asked, the concern in his voice echoing everyone's fears. "Most of us have lost control of our dragons, and we're outnumbered ten to one."
"Actually," Zane interjected with his usual precision, "it's approximately 62.4 to one." The room fell silent, the grim reality of the odds sinking in.
"Look, I'm scared like the rest of you," Lloyd said, breaking the silence. He stepped to the center of the room, his voice gaining strength with each word. "It may look like we've lost, but it's not over. When we thought we lost Zane, it nearly tore us apart. But we didn't quit. We let it fuel us. We grew stronger. And that strength is why we're here now."
Lloyd's words sparked a flicker of hope in the room, but it wasn't enough to erase the doubt etched into everyone's faces.
"There's still hope," Sensei Wu said, his voice carrying the weight of years of wisdom. "The Corridor of Elders."
"The Corridor of Elders?" Shade asked, his brow furrowing.
"I know it may feel like we don't stand a chance against Chen's army," Wu continued, his tone steady and unwavering. "But after he's secured the East, he will move West. And to do so, he must pass through Echo Canyons. That's where we make our stand—at the Corridor of Elders."
