Song in title- Your Nobody Til' Somebody Loves You by Dean Martin
—~~••~~—The Destiny's Bounty sailed through the sky, the lights of Ninjago City fading in the distance. The tension on the ship was thick, the hum of the engines the only thing keeping the silence from swallowing us whole.
Cole leaned over the control panel, his expression tight with worry. "How far, Nya?"
"We're going as fast as we can, but this ship needs some serious fine-tuning," Nya replied, her hands moving quickly over the controls. Her eyes never left the dashboard, frustration evident in her voice.
In the corner of my eye, I saw Jay hunched over the UHF, typing rapidly before pausing to glance around. His gaze landed on Garmadon, who stood near the control panel, inspecting the ship like a guest in a museum. Jay stiffened.
I can't believe we actually went back for him. I let out a quiet sigh, rolling my eyes as Garmadon curiously tapped at a few buttons.
"Hmm," the former warlord mused, tilting his head.
Jay jumped, yelping in surprise. "Aalgh!" He hurried over to where the rest of us were gathered, lowering his voice to an urgent whisper. "Am I the only one freaking out about this?"
Kai leaned against the railing, arms crossed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Why freak out? Our deranged, psychotic, arch-nemesis is now our house guest."
"I find the term freak out inadequate and imprecise," Zane interjected. "I prefer to say I am deeply troubled."
I crossed my arms, my gaze locking onto Garmadon, who was still wandering the control room. "This isn't the first time Garmadon's lived under the same roof as us. We know what to expect."
Nya, still focused on flying, leaned toward Lloyd, lowering her voice. "Lloyd, are you sure he can be trusted?"
Lloyd didn't hesitate. "No. Of course not."
Garmadon paused his button-inspecting. "Of course not?!" Jay turned toward us with an incredulous look. "That's not what you're supposed to say! You're supposed to say yes!"
Lloyd let out a heavy sigh. "What choice do we have? If Master Wu is right and the Oni are coming, then my father might be our best chance." He looked over at Garmadon warily. "And anyway... he doesn't have his powers back. So how much trouble can he really cause?"
At that exact moment, Garmadon pressed a button.
A low mechanical whirr filled the room.
The sails suddenly folded in. The thrusters shut off.
The ship lurched.
For a moment, there was silence as we all stared at Garmadon.
"Did he just turn off the—" Before Zane could finish, the Destiny's Bounty plummeted.
"Oh, great," Kai muttered, his voice barely audible over the sudden rush of wind.
The moment gravity took hold, we all screamed.
"AHHHHH!!"
"He shut off the engines! We're gonna crash!" Jay's voice cracked as he clung to the nearest railing.
Nya fought to regain control, her fingers flying over the controls. "Zane, the emission switch! Hit the emission switch!"
Zane sprang into action, bolting toward the switch—only for Kai to crash into him mid-air, sending them both sprawling.
