As I hurried down the hall, a gust of wind swept past me—unintended, of course. The air around me had been shifting without my command lately, moving like an untamed force responding to my every thought and emotion.

Unfortunately, that same gust caught Maya just as she was passing by, causing the hem of her dress to flutter wildly. She staggered slightly but quickly regained her composure, smoothing out the fabric with a graceful ease.

I exhaled, forcing a small, apologetic smile. "Sorry, Mrs. Smith... I swear that wasn't intentional."

"Oh dear, it's no problem at all," she said, offering me a reassuring smile as she waved a dismissive hand, her expression warm despite the obvious tension I felt. "We'll get to the bottom of this elemental problem, don't you worry." Then, her eyes gleamed with determination as she straightened her posture. "For now, I'm off to wake up Nya."

Panic shot through me like a bolt of lightning. I took a quick step forward, lifting a hand as if that would somehow stop her. "I really wouldn't—"

But before I could finish, she had already turned and strode toward Nya's room, completely unfazed.

I winced, internally bracing myself for what was about to happen. "—do that," I muttered under my breath.

Maya flung open Nya's door with an energy that should have been illegal at this hour. "Rise and shine, sleepyhead! It's 6 A.M.! Early ninja gets the worm!"

Nya groaned from under the covers, barely lifting her head. "No ninja wants a worm, Mom."

But Maya wasn't listening. Instead, she had turned her full attention to the state of Nya's room, her hands flying to her hips as she surveyed the chaos. Her eyes widened, and she let out a dramatic gasp. "Oh, my! Would you look at this mess. Dear, dear, dear."

I peeked inside out of morbid curiosity, only to see a disaster zone that made my own struggles with tidiness look tame. Weapons were strewn everywhere—blades stuck into walls, spears leaning against bookshelves, and throwing stars haphazardly embedded in the furniture.

Maya clapped her hands together, already shifting into mom mode. "Okay, let's tidy this place up! A messy room makes for a messy ninja, Nya, and we are not messy ninjas!"

Nya buried her face in her pillow. "Make it stop."

But Maya was already on a roll. "Spears belong in their racks, shurikens and throwing stars go in the shuriken and throwing star bin—" She yanked a handful of them from the headboard of Nya's bed and tossed them into a box with a loud clatter.

"Bladed weapons do not just get stabbed into a wall, young lady. They actually have a place!" She yanked a dagger out of the wooden dresser and waved it pointedly before putting it away. "And chickens do not belong indoors!"

Wu's chicken squawked indignantly as Maya scooped it up and all but threw it out the door. It let out a final offended cluck before vanishing down the hall.

"There! Now this place is starting to look like something." Maya clapped her hands together, nodding with satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Nya hadn't moved an inch. She just lay there, an arm thrown over her eyes like she was debating if it was worth it to get up or just accept her fate. "Am I having a nightmare, or is this really happening?"
