Song in title- Off to the Races
by Lana Del Rey
—~~••~~—I slowly turned the door handle, the faint sound of clinking cups and soft rustling inside the room catching my attention. When I stepped in, I found Master Wu sitting by his bedside, sipping tea with a look of quiet contemplation on his face.
"Master Wu," I called softly, approaching his bedside. His eyes fluttered open at the sound of my voice.
"Y/n... What can I help you with...?" he asked, setting the tea down weakly, his voice slower than usual, as if the exhaustion had worn him thin.
I pulled a chair up to his bedside, sitting down carefully, trying not to disturb him too much. "It's Lloyd and Cole," I began, my voice quieter now, tinged with concern. "They're both very important to me, but... it seems that Lloyd gets protective easily when I hang out with Cole."
Master Wu closed his eyes for a moment, a deep breath escaping his chest. "Well..." he mumbled softly, clearly struggling to focus. "You must..." His voice trailed off, and he drifted into a brief slumber, only to wake with a jolt. "That is what must be done!"
I blinked, unsure of what he meant. "Could you repeat that...?" I asked gently, my brow furrowing in confusion.
He sighed, nodding lazily, then lay back down. "That... must be done," he mumbled again, his voice drifting back into sleep.
I chuckled softly, though it was tinged with sadness. "Master Wu..." I murmured, shaking my head. It was clear he wasn't himself. I sighed, knowing it was better to let him rest.
As I stood up to leave, I almost bumped into Lloyd, who was standing in the doorway, his hand poised to knock.
Without thinking, I reached out and grabbed his arm, stopping him from entering. "He's out of it right now," I said quietly, my tone apologetic but firm.
Lloyd's face softened for a moment before his eyes filled with disappointment. "He's always out of it," he whispered, his voice laced with frustration. He furrowed his brows, looking down at the floor. "Doesn't he realize we need him?"
I sighed deeply, knowing how much pressure Lloyd had been carrying. Stepping closer, I gently pulled him into a hug. "Oh, Lloyd," I murmured, holding him a little tighter than usual. "I know it's hard, but... he's going to get through this."
Lloyd remained silent for a moment, his breath heavy with emotion before he pulled back slightly, wiping his eyes. "We can't lose him," he whispered, repeating the words with desperation. "We can't, we can't."
I nodded, looking him in the eyes with renewed determination. "He's going to get through this. We just have to believe in him."
I paused, a small smile forming as an idea began to take root. "And you know what? I think I know what will cheer you up," I said, my voice lightening a bit as I tried to shift his focus.
Lloyd gave me a confused look, his brow still furrowed in concern. "What?" he asked, clearly not expecting the change in tone.
I grinned, pulling him out of his thoughts. "How about we take a trip to the Dairy Dragon?" I suggested with excitement bubbling up in my chest.
Lloyd's eyes widened in surprise, and his face lit up immediately. "The Dairy Dragon?!" he exclaimed, his voice full of nostalgia. "I loved that place when I was younger! It was the best!"
"Then let's go!" I shouted, already tugging him toward the exit, the playful energy returning to his demeanor as he eagerly followed. "Come on, we deserve it!"
