Song in title- Gimme More
by Britney Spears
—~~••~~—The biting chill of the snowy air nipped at my cheeks as I braced myself against the massive temple doors, my fingers stiff and numb from the cold. Frost clung to the ancient wood, making it slick beneath my grip. I gritted my teeth and leaned my full weight into the doors, but they barely budged.
"Little help here!" I called over my shoulder, my breath fogging in the icy air.
Jay and Cole exchanged a quick look before hurrying toward me, their boots crunching against the frost-covered ground. Jay slipped slightly on the ice but caught himself, muttering something about the weather. Together, the three of us pressed against the heavy doors, our combined strength finally coaxing them to groan open.
A wave of warm air rushed out, carrying the faint, calming scent of incense and aged wood. It was a stark contrast to the harsh cold outside, and I instinctively pulled my mask down, letting the warmth touch my face.
"Finally," Jay panted, resting his hands on his knees. "I swear, whoever built these doors wasn't expecting visitors."
"You don't say," I replied dryly, stepping inside.
As we moved deeper into the temple, Jay couldn't help himself. "Cole, you're my friend," he started, his voice tinged with mock seriousness, "but right now, you're my worst enemy. You have no idea how time travel works."
Cole brushed snow off his shoulders and gave Jay a sidelong glance. "And you do?"
Jay straightened up, clearly ready for a lecture. "If someone goes back in time and alters the past," he began, his tone taking on an exaggerated air of authority, "our reality as we know it would change. Like, poof! We could look totally different and not even know it."
"Jay," I interjected, cutting him off before he got too carried away. "We don't look different, do we? Which means Master Wu didn't alter the past. He must've slipped into a time stream... probably the future."
Cole nodded, his expression grim but resolute. "Wherever he is, it's been a year. It's time we find him."
The temple's grand hall was eerily silent as we pressed on, the faint sound of our footsteps echoing off the stone walls. Eventually, we stumbled upon a group of monks seated in perfect stillness, their robes a soft contrast to the flickering candlelight around them. The serenity of the scene was almost unsettling after the chaos we'd endured.
Cole hesitated for a moment before stepping forward, clearing his throat awkwardly. "Uh, hi," he began, trying to sound respectful but coming off a little unsure. "Sorry to bother you. Cole, Master of Earth." He motioned toward me. "This is Y/n, Master of Wind." Then he gestured at Jay, who immediately struck an exaggerated, superhero-like pose. "And this guy..."
"Master of Blabber," I muttered under my breath, earning a quick glare from Jay.
"Lightning," Jay corrected indignantly.
Cole continued, his tone growing more serious. "We're looking for an old man who may have wandered in from the cold. About this tall, long beard, drinks a lot of tea—" He gestured vaguely, hoping for a reaction.
But the monk he addressed didn't so much as blink.
Jay groaned, slapping a hand to his forehead. "I told you not to introduce yourself as the Master of Earth! No one knows what that means!"
"Guys," I interrupted, gesturing around us. "Everyone here took a vow of silence. Duh."
Jay blinked, looking genuinely surprised. "Oh." Then, as if the solution was obvious, he turned back to the monk and shouted, "CAN YOU POINT US TO HIM?!" His voice echoed off the walls, breaking the serene stillness of the room.
