"YOUR LOVE, lifting me higher than I've ever been lifted before."

I groan and roll over in my bed.

"So keep it up, quench my desire..."

I lift my head up off of my pillow and squint my eyes. I slam my hand on my bedside table.

"...And I'll be at your side, forever more."

Finally, after what felt like a hundred attempts, my hand hits the small radio alarm clock and the music ceases. I sit up and throw my legs off the side of the bed. I stay seated for a moment and let the harsh morning light sit on my skin, then I decide to get dressed.

I walk out of my room and witness my father laying on the couch, surrounded by cans of Schlitz beer.

"Dad."

No response.

"Dad!"

Not even a twitch.

I walk over to him and poke his face. I start shaking his shoulders trying to get a response from him, to no avail. I walk over to the counter, grab a glass, and fill it up with water about halfway. I walk back over to the couch and begin to slowly pour the glass on his face.

Suddenly, he shoots up from the couch and breathes heavily. He wipes his face off with his hands and squints his eyes to look at me.

"What the hell is wrong with you, (Y/N)!"

I set the glass down on the coffee table.

"You're going to make me late for school again, Jim."

Without another word, he walks to his bedroom and slams the door. After about five minutes, he emerges again, less wet and dressed in his police uniform.

"Give me my keys."

I reach down and pick his keys up off of the coffee table and hand them to him.

"Let's go." He says.

The ride to the high school is eerily quiet. Once we arrive, I grab my backpack from in between my legs and reach to open the truck door, when it suddenly locks. I drop my hand from the handle and turn my head to look at my father. He still looks visibly upset, but less than he was earlier. He looks at me for a few seconds, then decides to finally break the silence.

"I'll see you after work."

I scoff and unlock the door, manually, and exit the truck. I walk towards the high school and try to move on with my day.

I walk towards my locker and the first bell rings. I quickly open up my locker and grab some of my books and paperwork needed for my next few classes. I then close my locker and notice that there are only a handful of people left in the hall, so I try running to my first class that just so happened to be on the other side of the school.

Just as I reached the door to my classroom, the late bell rings. I walk inside the classroom and everyone is already seated.

"Hopper. Late again. That'll be a detention after school for you."

I sigh and walk up to my English teacher's desk.

"Mrs. Swift, please, the bell just rang and I was at the door." I plead.

Mrs. Swift turns her attention from the blackboard to me, gaining the attention of the rest of the class as well.

"You should be seated, have your materials out, and be ready to learn by the time the late bell rings, Miss Hopper."
