"YOU GOT a job at the mall? Steve Harrington is gonna be working at Scoops Ahoy?"

"Yeah, already working." He says to me, "My dad is making me."

We sat on the hood of his car, looking out at Lover's Lake as the sun set on the horizon. This was pretty much a daily occasion for us, just to meet up and enjoy some time together after having to take care of the kids all day.

"Are you gonna come in and visit me while I'm working?" He asks.

I chuckle.

"To see you in that cute little sailor uniform? Every day." I say.

He shakes his head and I give his side a small nudge.

"You should come see me on my shift tomorrow." He says to me.

"I guess Dustin gets home from summer camp tomorrow, so the kids wanted to surprise him. I promised Will I would go with since he's fifth wheeling around El and Mike and Max and Lucas." I say to him.

He nods his head and looks over at me.

"But, I'll try to make it over there sometime this week, I promise." I say to him.

"That's enough for me." He says with a smile.

I smile back at him and lean my head over to rest on his shoulder. He places a hand on my knee and turns his head to look over at me. I bring my head up off of his shoulder and he brings his free hand up and pushes a strand of my loose hair behind my ear, then cups my cheek with his hand. He starts to lean in and I look down.

"I'm sorry, Steve." I say to him.

He takes his hand off of my cheek and looks down at the ground for a moment, then back over to the sunset, which was almost fully set by this point.

It's not that I didn't want to kiss him. It was exactly the opposite, but I knew I needed to slow things down. I still wasn't sure about Steve. I realized that his personality did a whole 180, but something in the back of my mind still told me to hold out for a little longer. I didn't want to commit to Steve, which I was practically already doing, and get my heart broken later.

We sit in silence for a few moments, just enjoying each other's company.

"I have to go in tonight, for work." Steve says, turning to look at me.

"Oh, yeah. Your job." I say.

He nods his head and I stand up from the hood of his car. I walk over to his passenger door and open it, getting in. He does the same and starts the car, backing out and driving it home.

I rode my bike over the the Byers' place and knocked on the door. After a few seconds I was met with a hug.

"Hi sweetheart! Are you here for Will?" Joyce says after pulling away.

"Yeah, is he ready?" I ask.

"Will, (Y/N)'s here!" She yells into the house.

Will runs down the hall way and to the front door.

"Ready?" I ask him, putting a hand on his shoulder as he walks out the door.

He nods and runs towards his bike.

"I'll take care of him, don't worry." I say to Joyce.

She thanks me and then I walk over to where Will was standing near my bike. I pick up my bike and we start heading to Dustin's house.
