Chapter 12

On the day of the meeting, Yu Yuan and Yi Duyi arrived at the Huo Company right on time.

The employees were busy, but there was no sense of chaos. The employees' orderly manner gave people an idea of how well-run the company was.

Assistant Lin arrived to welcome them. Seeing Assistant Lin, Yu Yuan had a thought in her mind, but she quickly dismissed it. She was probably overthinking.

Turns out she wasn't. Assistant Lin led them to a mini-conference room and said, "Please wait here. The president will be here soon."

"..."

"President Huo will be joining us?" Yi Duyi asked, filled with incredulity.

Naturally, Assistant Lin couldn't say that his boss was attending the negotiations because he heard Miss Yu would be present. As a competent assistant, he quickly found a viable excuse.

"We have been working on this project for a while now and it's very important. Your company possesses the most important plots we need, so our president felt that he needed to be here for the negotiations."

Yu Yuan raised her eyebrows. Other people might buy that explanation, but she thought otherwise. With the scale of the Huo family's business, this project was not as important as Assistant Lin was making it to be. But whether they believed it or not, they couldn't change anything. Besides, she liked this arrangement.

Yu Yuan and Yi Duyi settled down, while Assistant Lin went to inform his boss of their arrival.

Not long after, Huo Wei arrived.

Yu Yuan and Yi Duyi quickly stood to offer their greetings.
Yi Duyi raised his eyesight to look at Huo Wei and forgot himself for a moment.

Huo Wei donned a well-tailored dark suit. His face was cold and frigid, but it couldn't cover up his handsomeness. It just made people too afraid to stare for long.

Yi Duyi had heard about President Huo, but he didn't have any mental preparations before this meeting. He hadn't even met any of the real bigwigs in City A yet.

His real estate company might be very successful. Still, it was nothing compared to the numerous successful companies that had been around for longer. At most, he could be considered a nouveau riche. One could imagine the impact one of the biggest bosses in all of Country A would have on a newbie like Yu Duyi.

Although he was stunned for a moment, Yi Duyi was still an intelligent man that ran a successful business. He quickly gathered himself.

"We weren't expecting this, but it's truly an honor to meet you in person President Huo. This is Miss Yu Yuan, my partner in this meeting."

Huo Wei turned to look at Yu Yuan and nodded in acknowledgment.

Facing his oppressive eyes, Yu Yuan responded with a smile. Huo Wei's eyes darkened imperceptibly, and he turned away. Then, both parties sat down.

As Huo Wei sat opposite them, Yu Yuan noticed a faint dark shadow under his eyes. If it were anyone else, this shadow might make them look wretched, but it only made Huo Wei look more cold and intimidating.
It seems President Huo suffered from sleepless nights, she thought.

His cool voice sounded, "Then, shall we begin?"

The negotiation was a new experience for Yi Duyi. Huo Wei treated them like he was negotiating with huge multinationals— it was brutal. Yu Duyi almost couldn't catch his breath. But what surprised him the most was Yu Yuan.

The oppressive atmosphere Huo Wei created seemed to be nothing to Yu Yuan. Their back-and-forth negotiations were very heated, but Yu Yuan didn't drop the ball. If anything, it looked like they were at par.

At par? Who was Huo Wei? His actions could shake the economic climate of Country A.

And Yu Yuan? Asides from her outstanding business acumen Yi Duyi didn't know anything else. Now, it seems he was a bit short-sighted. He was acquainted with such a big boss, yet he was oblivious to it.

Assistant Lin, on the other hand, received another shock from Yuan. He naturally knew more than Yi Duyi, but that's why he was even more shocked. He had followed Huo Wei for so long and had seen many talented people. But this was the first time he saw someone face Huo Wei with such confidence and proficiency.
Yu Yuan was on par with some old foxes his boss usually dealt with. If anything, she was better than some of them. He should have known. Someone that his boss took an interest to couldn't be ordinary.

After hours of intense negotiations, they finally settled on a price. The plots were sold for a price six times what they were initially purchased for. All thanks to Yu Yuan. Without her, they wouldn't get such a generous price.

As soon as they signed the contract, Yi Duyi felt his nerves relax. This was quite the experience.

Yu Yuan had a slight smile on her lips. She found this experience to be enjoyable and satisfying. She rarely got to put her true skills to use during negotiations. This was truly refreshing.

Sigh! What to do? She found Huo Wei even more attractive.
Yu Yuan glanced at her watch. It was almost lunchtime. The negotiations were over, and now she could pad her stomach. This intense negotiation took some energy.

Huo Wei's cold voice sounded as she was considering lunch, "It's almost lunchtime. How about we have lunch together?"

It was a request that almost no one would refuse.

"Of course, we would love to," Yi Duyi responded. He was about to inquire about the restaurant when his phone vibrated.

Yi Duyi was startled but quickly reacted. Before this meeting, he had set up his phone so as not to be disturbed by calls. But he allowed calls from important numbers to go through. Since the negotiation was done, he quickly excused himself to receive the call.

After Yi Duyi left, Huo Wei spoke, "I've heard about Miss Yu, but I didn't know you were this talented.'
"President Huo flatters me. To be noticed by you is a blessing."

Of course, he had heard of her. After that night, she was sure that he had thoroughly investigated her. By now, he was definitely privy to most of the things she hid from public view.

"Miss Yu is being humble. Very few people are capable of the feats you have achieved."

Yu Yuan simply smiled in response. Was this referring to her time in the military or something else?

After this, Huo Wei didn't speak. The room fell silent, but no one felt awkward. Assistant Lin relied on his wealth of experience to keep composed; Yu Yuan thought the silence wasn't bad, while President Huo was simply unbothered.

Yu Duyi soon returned. He looked flustered. "I'm sorry but I won't be able to attend lunch today. Something very important came up."

"It's fine," Huo Wei replied.

Yi Duyi felt apologetic. This was a very rare opportunity, but something important really came up. He turned to Yu Yuan, "I'll have to trouble you to represent the two of us."

Yu Yuan nodded in response, and Yu Duyi was somewhat relieved. With Yu Yuan, things would go well. He quickly took his leave.

Now it was just Huo Wei and Yu Yuan going for lunch. Yu Yuan thought, how convenient.

"Shall we?" Huo Wei stood up.
Yu Yuan followed him. "What restaurant are we going to?" she asked.

Assistant Lin answered, "There is a restaurant nearby that President Huo frequents. Their food and service are commendable."

Yu Yuan nodded.

When they got to the lobby, the employees sent covert glances at them. Who was this lady walking next to their boss? They had seen Yu Yuan enter with Yi Duyi, but now she was alone and leaving with the president. And it looked like they were going for lunch.

Was there anything at play here? Of course, they knew that something like that was unlikely, but they rarely saw the big boss with women. This was some gossip they were determined to milk. Hence, their imagination ran wild, coming up with some absurd plots like gifting a beautiful woman in exchange for a major contract.

These employees were really bored.
