Li Na quickly rushed back to Yu Yuan's side. The waiter was still apologizing profusely. His fervor and anxiety were like Yu Yuan was a monster who would cut his flesh and drink his blood out of anger.

Yu Yuan was about to speak when Gu Meiling, who had joined the crowd at some point, spoke up. "Yu Yuan, the waiter didn't mean to bump into you and ruin your dress. It was just a mistake. Forgive the poor guy. He looks like he's about to pass out from anxiety."

While she was speaking, she put up a pretentious kind appearance. An ignorant person would have assumed she was a kind-hearted woman, and Yu Yuan was an arrogant and petty person who couldn't forgive a waiter for a minor mistake.

Yu Yuan didn't have the chance to speak yet, but she had observed the waiter since he bumped into her. He might have been apologizing, but his demeanor was too fake, and he didn't look sorry at all.

Once Gu Meiling interrupted, his spine became straighter, and he became more confident in his acting. It wasn't hard to put two things together. This was a ploy from Gu Meiling. Such a childish and cliche plot could only come from someone like Gu Meiling.

What? Was she trying to regain face by putting Yu Yuan in a bad light to contrast with herself?

Li Na nearly exploded. "Stop making it look like Yu Yuan is a bully. She hasn't even said anything yet. How could you jump to that conclusion?"

"I'm not trying to imply anything. I'm just trying to smooth things over to prevent conflict. After all, I booked this venue. If the service isn't good enough I should take some responsibility."

Li Na sneered. She was about to retort, but Yu Yuan stopped her.

"That's enough." Li Na quieted down. Gu Meiling wanted to speak, but at Yu Yuan's warning eyes, she couldn't find the guts.

Yu Yu looked at her dress and sighed quietly. This party had been a test of her nerves ever since she arrived. If she didn't retaliate, she wouldn't be Yu Yuan. But it wouldn't happen here. Right now, all she wanted to do was leave.

Her eyes dug into Gu Meiling. "You shouldn't have."

"What...what...do you mean? I didn't do anything," Gu Meiling stuttered. Yu Yuan's gaze unnerved her to the point where she was starting to feel regret.

Yu Yuan didn't say any more to her. Instead, she turned to the waiter. "You can leave. I wasn't going to do anything to you anyway."

The waiter bowed and quickly exited. He had a feeling things hadn't gone according to plan, and he wanted to leave the scene as soon as possible.

Gu Meiling had set this up to embarrass Yu Yuan, but Yu Yuan didn't look the slightest bit embarrassed. If anything, she ignored the discreet eyes that occasionally turned in her direction and the barely hidden whispers.

"As my dress is ruined, I'll be leaving."

The corners of Li Na's lips pulled down, feeling upset about all that had happened that night. "Let me go back with you."

"No, you don't have to. I'll be fine by myself." Then she lowered her voice and whispered mysteriously, "Plus, I don't want to hinder your romance."

"You..." Li Na blushed. "Fine. Just go. Don't forget to give me a call when you get home."

"Hmm."

Once Yu Yuan left the banquet, the first thing she did was to proceed to find the bathroom. The smell of alcohol on her was starting to irritate her.

Probably because she was in a bad mood, the directions felt confusing, and she couldn't find the bathroom after a while. Yu Yuan looked around to see if she would find a staff to show her the way, but the path she wandered to was deserted. Not a soul could be found.

Yu Yuan could only rein in her bad mood and try to find her way calmly. As she walked through a corridor, Yu Yuan suddenly paused and halted her footsteps.

There was the smell of rust in the air. The smell was faint, and a normal person wouldn't have caught it, but Yu Yuan's sense of smell was stronger than most people's. Yu Yuan sniffed at the air.

Her brows slightly furrowed. Now she was sure it was the smell of blood.

The metallic scent was coming from her right. Yu Yuan looked to her right. Unknowingly, she had stopped before a door.

The soundproofing of the room was superb. She could barely hear a thing. If not for the smell, she wouldn't have known something unusual was going on here.

Yu Yuan examined the corridor, trying to confirm something. There were no cameras. Coupled with the lack of any other human presence, Yu Yuan was sure that a very important person was occupying this space.

Yu Yuan didn't know whether to curse her luck today or not. She wanted to leave this place as soon as possible. Something shady was going on, and she didn't want to run into anything troublesome.

As she moved to leave, the door was suddenly yanked open.

A bunch of expletives flashed through Yu Yuan's mind at that moment. She didn't have time to lament her misfortune before she was taken by surprise.

A bloodied figure crawled out of the open door. At a closer look, Yu Yuan discovered that it was a man. His clothes were in tatters, and the exposed parts of his body were covered with injuries. Most of his wounds were fresh.

The man caught sight of Yu Yuan as he crawled out. His eyes brightened like he had seen a savior. He extended one of his hands to clutch her dress.

"Help...help me please."

Before she could react, two well-built men stormed out from the room and dragged the man back in. He tried to struggle, but his efforts were fruitless. "No! No! Don't take me back!" In his desperation, he begged Yu Yuan, "Help...help, please. Don't let them take me away."

Expressionless, Yu Yuan stared as he was dragged away. A trail of blood followed him.

Now that they knew she was here, they won't let her go back easily. Sigh. How troublesome.

Just as she expected, one of the men came back out and invited her in. "Miss, our boss would like to speak with you. Please come in."

"Ok."

The guard was a bit surprised at her calmness. A normal person would have reacted from fear and tried to run or plead, but this young lady just looked like all that had transpired was expected. Although this was better, it saved him from extra work.

Yu Yuan stepped into the room, and the guard followed. As she walked in, the smell of blood became stronger. She didn't hear the shouts of the injured man, but she heard whimpers.

When she saw him again, he was on his knees, bowing before a man seated at the center of the room. He bowed like a pious worshipper. If not for his nonstop trembling, one would think he was in the church.

Despite his situation, he didn't utter a single word to plead. Obviously, he greatly feared the man to the point where he couldn't speak.

Yu Yuan's eyes left the bowing man and shifted to the one seated. He was seated languidly with his back facing Yu Yuan so she couldn't see his face. Even without seeing his face, she felt he exuded a deadly atmosphere that stifled people.

This was a very dangerous person, but Yu Yuan felt he was familiar for some reason. When she finally arrived before him, the first thing she did was look at his face.

Yu Yuan's pupils shrunk in surprise. The man was Huo Wei.
