The new arrival was Qin Huifen. She also worked in the Huo Company and was one of the few people who worked close to Huo Wei. That couldn't be helped because she was very good at her job and knew the boundaries she shouldn't cross.

But Xie Chang didn't like her. Why?

Qin Huifen thought of herself as the next Mrs. Huo. Not just her; every other person in the company did.

When Huo Wei was facing off with the rest of the Huo family, Qin Huifen's grandfather, Qin Guotin, extended a helping hand. Qin Guotin was a good friend of the former Patriarch Huo. After the passing of his friend, he couldn't just watch the only acknowledged heir fall into ruins, so he helped a little.

He didn't know that his little actions would bring such huge benefits in the end. Now, the Qin family had collaborated with the Huo family on many profitable ventures. Their relationship might not be as close as when the former Patriarch Huo was alive, but they were closer than the majority of the families that had dealings with the Huo family.

This was also part of the reason Qin Huifen could find her way here. When she first came to work at the Huo Company, her excuse was that she didn't want to be cuddled at the Qin Company. She wanted to build something by herself.

Xie Chang thought that excuse was bullshit. Anyone could see that her main goal was Huo Wei, but she was qualified, and the Huo family had some relationship with the Qin family, so she was hired.

Qin Huifen was a smart woman. She knew she wouldn't last long if she acted like the other women. Instead of pestering Huo Wei, she put effort into her job while slowly learning Huo Wei's bottom line and moving closer.

Her tactics paid off. Now she was highly regarded in the Huo Company and the only female who worked closely with Huo Wei. Because of this, everyone thought she would be the next Mrs. Huo.

Xie Chang knew that Huo Wei had no interest in Qin Huifen. He only tolerated her because of her work ability. Qin Huifen knew this too, but she was persistent.

The main reason behind his dislike towards Qin Huifen was her actions behind the scenes. Part of the rumors about Huo Wei disliking women came from Qin Huifen.

Agreed, most of them were true, but Qin Huifen fanned the flames to highlight her importance and chase other women away.

Xie Chang even suspected that she had done more than that, but he couldn't find evidence. Huo Wei knew too. Maybe he knew even more, but he allowed it. He probably saw Qin Huifen as a shield. Huo Wei's tolerance further inflated Qin Huifen's confidence. She thought Huo Wei was already hers, and it was only a matter of time before they got married.

Xie Chang really disliked her, but she hadn't done anything out of line, so he could only endure.

Qin Huifen ignored the obvious dislike in Xie Chang's eyes and asked, "Where's President Huo? I have important matters to discuss with him."

"I don't know. I just got here too, but I didn't meet him," Xie Chang replied curtly.

There was no way he would tell her where Huo Wei really was. Although she could find out using her means, he wouldn't be the one to say it. Not wanting to remain any longer, he said, "I still have some work to do, so I'll be leaving." After saying this, he hurried away without waiting for her response.

Qin Huifen stared at Xie Chang's retreating back. Her eyes coldly narrowed.

In the private room, Yu Yuan and Huo Wei were still engrossed in their conversation. They both seemed to enjoy it. They had moved from business to economics to politics. To Yu Yuan, Huo Wei was a treasure trove of knowledge. She had managed to glean tons of knowledge. Some of them could only be gotten from years of experience and good insight.

She even managed to learn the forces behind some major economic events. During the conversation, her admiration for Huo Wei grew. She could see why he was able to reach the top so fast and remain there for so long.

He had the ability. Even if one had the knowledge, without the ability, one would have been swallowed amid the waves without making a single impact. The fact that Huo Wei made it this far showed he was more than capable.

Meanwhile, Huo Wei was surprised. Yu Yuan was more intelligent and informed than he thought. With a little hint, she could uncover the entire plot and backstory. Her ideas were unconventional, but they suited his taste more.

He could also see the growing admiration in Yu Yuan's eyes. He felt more pride than if someone had outrightly complimented him. Because of this, he couldn't help but say a few more words.

Meanwhile, Qin Huifen arrived at the restaurant Huo Wei and Yu Yuan were in.

Xie Chang was right. After he left, Qin Huifen managed to get all the useful information in no time at all. From what she heard, she felt a little sense of unease.

Who was this lady that managed to make Huo Wei act out of norms? The Huo Wei she knew wouldn't bother himself with minor negotiations. Even worse, he wouldn't have a meal alone with a female, even if she was a business partner. She had seen Wei refuse female business partners that had bigger dealings with the Huo Company. What was so different about this lady?

Qin Huifen couldn't sit still. She had to see for herself, and that's how she found herself here.

After she arrived, Qin Huifen felt she was being irrational. Just a minor anomaly got her all anxious. It didn't matter who it was or how she was different; she, Qin Huifen, would triumph.

Thinking about it, she sneered. There had been different women who tried different methods. In the end, she sent them packing and managed to remain the only woman by Huo Wei's side. This time wouldn't be any different.

She would be the next Mrs. Huo.

But since she was already here, she might as well see the wench who was so capable.

When she entered the restaurant, the hostess recognized her. "Miss Qin are you here for President Huo? He's in the usual private room."

The hostess made a move to accompany her there, but Qin Huifen waved her off. "I'll go by myself." Then she made her way to the private room.

Upon arrival, she already had a little scheme planned. She would open the door without knocking. She had already prepared an excuse for her rudeness. This excuse would show off her relationship with Huo Wei and serve as a warning if the other party had an ulterior motive. This lady probably wasn't important, so Huo Wei would let it slide.

But Qin Huifen had miscalculated. As she opened the door, the scene before her made her pupils shrink.

The two people in the room were so engrossed in their conversation that they didn't realize her entrance on time. This allowed her to witness a scene she never thought was possible.

Huo Wei had his attention on the lady. He didn't seem apathetic, bored, or irritated like he normally did when conversing with other people. If anything, his face softened as he faced the lady. He probably didn't notice this himself.

The sense of unease Qin Huifen had managed to tamp down came back in full force. This time it doubled. One thought came to her at this point. She couldn't let this continue.
